Mahe Fonua

That was a poor attempt of a tackle … below is an article from the Hull Daily Mail, dated September 2016, that supports Fraze23\. One paragraph reads

"There's a deficiency in his defence, the odd misread apparent. I know the coaching staff at Hull will together with Fonua work hard to eradicate the poor reads."

I bet his defense was sound at Melbourne. Defense has a lot to do with the coach and defensive structure Melbourne being the example.

Dunno about that. Koroibete's defence was as bad when he was at Melbourne as what it was with us. Nothing changed there…......

SO why did he leave Melbourne? Did he get replaced? Seems odd for a young player that was doing ok to go to the ESL. Why didn't he stay in the NRL. Offered a truck load of cash?

I'm not overly rapt in this potential signing. He seems like an exact clone of Noffa. We already have a noffa. We need our opposite winger to have a lot of pace.

You are correct. Similar to Nofoaluma and lacks genuine pace. Strong winger on the right but electric pace on the left wing. We can't score points or defend them now so we are buying a winger who has defensive issues, is not overly tall and lacks genuine pace.

It's an interesting one isn't it?

I can only assume we have purchased him for cover or to help Noffa cannon the ball back when we are starting sets in our own half.

Noffa, Fonua then the forwards to get us on the front foot and take some pressure off the big boys.

He can certainly finish a try close to the line, so that's a good thing I guess.

I's still like to see Hopoate signed and then go hard at some quality forwards.

Still need a goalkicker though

Fonua was gun for Melbourne particularly against the Wests Tigers poor outside defence even then. He is way bigger by at least 10kgs than Nofo and faster and stronger ! This is very good signing.

Anyone who excelled at Melbourne spells one thing for me…Bellamy, the bloke could make a turd look good

Before this year he had been a regular in the Warriors side for 2 or 3 years racking up over 50 games. Can't believe how many people are unfamiliar with him.

Watching those highlights it dawned on me Fonua plays on the same wing as Nofoaluma..

If he has signed somebody has to swap sides…unless it's a centre/wing combo which would defeat the purpose of what they both are good at...bringing the ball back...

You are just saying that because we got burned by Adam Blair. Steve Turner did alright with the Bulldogs (played better then when at the Storm and was a little above average there, nothing special). Greg Ingles took Souths to the final and carved up at Fullback, Israel Folau sucked at GWS, but GWS and AFL sucks anyway and he did well at Brisbane and in RU.

Full cred to Bellamy, he does make a Turd look good. He took a team of Turds to the grand final after the Salary cap scandal. His forward pack plays to a structure and that structure works. This will sound silly but I think the best post Melbourne recruitment was Dallas Johnson. Why? Because all the Melbourne team, unanimously said he was the best tackler with the best technique. Did he set the Cowboys on fire, NO. He was probably one of their worst in the front line. However you have seen their pack lift, I reckon he helped that pack get to where it is today.

The question is not is Fonua worth signing but HOW MUCH? He has probably lost the Melbourne training regime and has dropped to EPL defense standards. He probably too hasn't been injured too much over there either. If he is $150K (and I am dreaming) he is a fantastic buy. If he is $400K he is a Horrible buy. Cleary can work out if he is a first grade regular or a punt too see if he can develop into something. Lets see.

Smoking Gun posted in signing and rumours thread that wt are trying to get him before June 30
