Wests Tigers rookie Manaia Cherrington unfazed by Robbie Farah and Matt Ballin

The "third" hooker at the Wests Tigers, Manaia Cherrington, will not be looking to switch clubs despite an apparent logjam for the No.9 jersey now it appears Robbie Farah will stay at the club.

Cherrington has been advised by his manager to learn all he can from Farah and veteran recruit Matt Ballin despite the well publicised stand-off between Farah and coach Jason Taylor.

Farah intends to remain at Concord despite being advised by Taylor to move on or risk playing in the NSW Cup. The coach was seen to draw another line in the sand by recruiting Ballin, who played 217 matches for Manly.

However, player manager Tyran Smith said Cherrington, who recently returned from the New Zealand Kiwis tour of Great Britain, was only focused on succeeding at the Wests Tigers.

**"He's not going anywhere," said Smith when asked if the Farah drama and Ballin's arrival had made his client consider a change of clubs.\
\
"It's good, healthy competition and it provides a tremendous opportunity for Manaia to learn from two great hookers. He's played 11 first grade games and his selection for the Kiwi tour suggests he's considered an international in the making.\
\
"I've advised him to learn all he can from Robbie and Matt Ballin, they're great players and on top of all that Manaia has the opportunity to continue building on his combinations with Mitchell Moses, Luke Brooks and James Tedesco, three players he's climbed through the ranks with.**

"He won the 18s [premiership] with them, they won the 20s together so it's a very good situation. Manaia is only 21 and has the chance to serve a great apprenticeship at Wests Tigers. He's committed to training hard and doing all he can to ensure he becomes the best player he can possibly be."

Cherrington has been described as being more in the Issac Luke mould than Farah's, thriving on quick ruck speed and punishing lazy defenders. He was named in the National Youth Competition's 2014 Team of the Year and captained the Junior Kiwis in their win over the Junior Kangaroos.

When the Tigers returned to pre-season training three weeks ago Taylor explained the reason why he signed Ballin was to add more competition for the No.9 jersey.

On Wednesday night, Taylor gave his strongest indication that Farah would retain his NRL berth next season by saying "if Robbie keeps training how he is there is no reason he won't be in the team in round one".

Thank god his manager isn't Ayoub, he would be at Manly or the Dogs right now.

Hope Manaia stays, even if it is at the expense of Farah as much as i hate to say it. Love the kid, so good, going to be better.

Wish Tyran could manage far more NRL stars

One of my favourite WT's players in the early days

But I suppose there lays the difference

Tyran has been there done that , what did Ayoub do ??

Could end up one of the best 9's in the comp in a year or two. Absolutely essential we keep this kid!

I'm hoping that Farah has agreed to cut his ties at the end of 2016 with the Club….like Ayoub requested , he can have his farewell games through out the year and all parties will be happy.
Farah will go out the Champion that he is and will be respected for saving the Club $1Million for 2017, by then Cherrington will be more than ready to lead our side from 2017 onwards.

Farah's departure will help keep moses, brooks, & teddy at the club also. I think the tension at training ATM must be like like a smoke filled room.

Brooks and Moses may have thought if the situation implodes further during the year they certainly did not want to be tied to club if infighting and bad blood between farah/the players and management got even worse than where it is atm.

I think Farah's departure will now clear the air. There's alot of hard work to do between now and Round 1 and the players and management can put this stuff behind them now.

If the Tigers can stay focused and US V THEM mentality goes then Brooks, Moses & Teddy will be at the club because no-one is going to pay them the money the Tigers will. Lets hope now they show that they are capable of earning it.

Teddy,Moses,Brooks,Cherrington…....looks like a very promising combination.

In some ways. if Robbie leaves we can completely start over. The problem is how many of these kids are going to really kick on.

New this morning that Farah has asked for an immediate release from the final two years of his contract.

Improves Manaia's chances of regular 1st Grade that's for sure…

Looking forward to more of Manaia's positive attitude rather than the jaded attitude he will ultimately replace.

Hopefully he has learned all he needed from Robbie and can learn some different positives from Ballin.

If we can weather the storm we're in and keep the young guns we'll come out the other side in a good position.

Learning from a team player and leader will be invaluable for Cherringtom and all the young guys. Team first and individual second is what manly based their success on.
I'm really pumped for next year now.

Yeah I'm sure Robbie was a terrible influence on Mania. Thank god he is gone and the god Matt Ballin has come in to educate him.

Well he's won 2 premierships to farahs 1\. Played origin and would have played more if not for Cam Smith. Farah would have played more aswell of not for Mick Ennis.
he's more than capable replacement.

Do people think now that Mania should own the 9 jumper or should Ballin have it ???

Shared to start with. But if one has it all over the other than the other will drop back. Mania has only played 6 or 7 games so far so Ballin will be needed for a while.
