Manly V Cowboys Crowd = Pathetic !

Both finals crowds have been below par IMO. To not be able to get in excess of 60000 to our game is a pretty big disappointment. If u put 2 local teams up against each other in the AFL u can guarantee the MCG would be jam packed!!! Essendon v Carlton tomorrow will be a sellout I guarantee!!!

You're kidding about our crowd? It was a finals week 1 record for Sydney (smashed the old record of 33k, which we set last year). How is that below par?

Comparing it to the AFL is stupid, they get much bigger crowds than us all throughout the year, because their clubs are run better than ours. It's only now that NRL clubs are starting bigger membership drives to lift crowds.

you're right and i think we would have got around 55,000 if it wasnt raining during the day

Good to see the guys on the Roast give it to them today, saying their fans need to get rid of the "up yours" attitude towards the game and that its not hard to travel 20km over the bridge.

I can't believe that des hasler is giving it to the nrl for such a poor crowd showing up. Has he got his head stuck up his ass? He should be giving it to the womanly supporters for not bothering to drive the 25k's to get out of their bubble and support their team. What a tool.

Manly (along with 15 other clubs) AGREED to move home semis to big stadiums for week 1\. Yet now, because their fans are so pathetic, come out and whinge about it. If you didn't like it, why did you agree to it before the season started. Scum club, hope Brisbane/St George put 50 on them in a fortnight.

I can only think it's because they played St George at Kogarah last year and they didnt want to play at another suburban ground if they finished outside the top 4.

Hio everyone

Two of the crowd weren't even Manly or Cowboys supporters (myself and friend) - we went because it was free and we weren't doing anything else.

We left early (unheard of for me if it was a Tigers game) but so many Manly supporters left early as well - in a hurry to get out of the sity back to God's country - lol!! Wouldn't have been many left when the bell went!!

By the same token all year Saturday games are 5.30 and 7.30 kickoffs.

So because 9 has the broadcast and can't miss out on their news being watched the kickoffs go back an hour.

Like everyone else I think the Manly(?) fans are weak as for not travelling it does make a late night for those with families.

We got 5 free tickets too fom my wifes work. They were handing out like lollies but we did not get to the game.

Manly fans dont cross the bridge. Never.

The fans that were there would have been expat manly fans who live South of the bridge.

Im sure.

The team should be based in Gosford. The community there wants a team and surely they would appreciate them enough to travel to support them. I'm not suggesting moving manly to Gosford but rather give the central coast bears the licence.

Yep. Terry Kennedy in particular was spot on with his comments. As he said if you can't get excited about your team playing in a semi final you've got problems. As they also said it's about 20km from Brookvale to the SFS. It's not like they had to go to Newcastle.

The NRL were spot on - these are finals games and they should be played in the best grounds. Brookvale is a terrible ground. You've also got to be consistent on these things. You can't let Manly play at Brookvale because they're playing a non-Sydney team and then ask another Sydney team to play at ANZ/SFS because they are playing another Sydney team.

If some of you may have forgotten, _Manly_ were the ones who complained about Sydney teams getting home finals at small suburban grounds - Last year Manly played St George at Kograh and they complained that there wouldn't be any tickets for the Manly supporters.

The NRL changed the rules _for Manly_, but this year when _Manly_ get their game moved to the SFS they complain "you should have had it at Brookie, we'd have gotten a 19000 capacity crowd there".

I think the poor crowd is because there's a $3 bridge toll and most people in Manly are poor and can't afford it. What else could it possibly be?

I hope Gallop rememberes this.

Manly have pea-hearted supporters. Weak as p*ss for not travelling and supporting their team.
Their management continues their 'woe is me' seige mentality that is ruining their club.
God, I hate them.

They will be out-numbered against the Dragons and probably even the Broncos supporters will travel better 10 hours away then Manly supporters 30 mins away. I just want them knocked out just stand they club.

I agree, Cunno. Manly simply cannot generate the support or the sponsorship to survive on the northern beaches. They had a chance to embrace the central coast as the Beagles but did all they could to ensure it didn't work. Give the licence to the Central Coast and relegate Manly to the State Cup - that way, I/we could all still hate 'em when they play our State Cup teams.

Interesting stat I just found from the 2005 semi-finals:

North Queensland 24 beat Melbourne 16
Date:Sat 17-Sep-2005
**Venue:S.F.S. Crowd:16,810**

Problem with relocating Manly is that there is little to no interest in Manly up on the Central Coast. It's hard enough for the Bears people to sell the idea of a transported team. As much as I hate Manly I really don't think relocating/ditching them is a good idea. Having no RL team in the whole north of Sydney would not be a smart move.

Cunno and I were not talking about relocating them, Yossarian. Ditch them. A whole 12,000 people will be unhappy. Good riddance, I say.

Yeah sorry I should have read that a bit more closely. Still I maintain it would be a mistake to get rid of them. Cronulla are a much bigger basketcase than Manly.
