Marika Koroibete

Has been going well in NSW cup - another good match today despite the loss and really deserves another chance in first grade. Our current wingers are actually quite slow and Koroibete's defense is really exaggerated by some members of this site - not always his fault (with Lulia alongside him in rounds when he played) and Nofo/Richards aren't the greatest defenders either.

I would like to find a place for him somewhere in the top grade. We certainly could do with some speed out wide at the moment and Koro does bend the line in attack.

Look if he could defend like he attacks we wouldn't be having this argument

Suppose if I say he isn't good under the high ball I'd be picking on him and greatly exaggerating his issues there as well

But he is fast so that's the most important thing

Been saying this since before the RLWC where he was also strong defensively (given his opposition).

Was hoping nofo would slot into FB but Rowe played well this week. Also, I suspect he is on the outter but he will hopefully find a home elsewhere in FG

I would take his defensive liability any day.

Simona to fullback to make room, Nofo to the centres. We are desperate for speed out wide.

His attacking game far outweighs his defensive issues. It's just crazy he hasn't been given another shot, he's surely on his way out unfortunately.

Our attack definitely seems to fizzle out wide. That was where we used to make most of our metres. The promise of Simona, Nofo and Koro hasn't come to fruition so far this year. But early days. With Teddy out and a lot of pressure on Brooks at the moment, we could do with added X factor. We don't seem to be getting the most of Nofo. Would much prefer him to centre and Koro outside, rather than Lulia. There'd at least be a whiff of points.

I actually believe that Simona and Lawrence need to change sides. Lawrence and patty on one side is too slow. Plus Lawrence is the type of centre who can put his winger away better than most centres and nofo deserves quality ball .

Don't think it will happen but that would be my choice for next game tbh.

Couple of years ago I'd have agreed with you, but this season I've been seeing Lawrence start to make a few breaks again, but unable or unwilling to offload it when we've had the numbers. I don't know if that's a lack of trust in his own passing game, lack of faith in his outside man or poor communication and spacial awareness as to where the support player is coming through.

That's off topic, this thread is about Marika. I get excited about Koro same as everyone else when he's pointed in the right direction with a ball. Thing is I'm not sure the Tigers backline is strong enough defensively to carry him. He's a potent weapon sure enough, but I don't see either Lawrence or Simona being able to tackle for both. There are teams who can accomodate one trick ponies like Korobete or Uate, but this Tigers lineup may not be the place.

Also every half in the comp will have identified Marika's side as a very easy option on the 5th. A winger who can't catch or tackle becomes a ball magnet.

I am willing to give him Another shot, with the emphasis on the 'A', and it seems that Potter is as well, apparently having him as eighteenth man if needed against the chooks.

He is never going to be great under the high ball, nor much of a defender and I can handle that, but he was absolutely abysmal against the dragons. I can't recall seeing a winger pathetically backing away into his in-goal area like that before, let alone twice and some want to blame his centre partner.

I'd like to find a place for Koro as well - preferably in Fiji.

Let him go and use the dough to keep one of these younger guys.

He cannot be taught to read the play - he has absolutely no idea.

It is such a shame to not see him flourish as a player. Has so much potential just on his speed and strength.

It's almost as though he needs an individual coach to unlock this potential though. He's still unsure of the rules and his basic defensive instinct is bad at best.

He's had a fair bit of time on the sidelines, and I thought this would help his footy brain develop. But he's still got a long way to go.

I think Koro is a gun. We need that speed out wide as well. I think he has to take Richards spot when Richards goes but I don't know where to play him now.

We need our outside backs to be weapons. I also like the idea of swapping Lawrence and SImona.

He gets knocked off his feet way too easily. Lacks balance and needs to develop leg muscle.

100% agree with you mate. He can run but has absolutely no clue.

While I'm a big fan of Koro, the bottom line is that he is not a better player than Richards or Nufo. He may be faster but he has no where near the footy intelligence these two have.

He is a depth player for now. Harsh truth of it

I completely agree with this 100%. I've been thinking it for a while. Lawrence and Richards have experience, Nofo and Simona have young, freakish athleticism. It makes so much more sense in every way, especially with Simona. He is a try scoring maniac but since his move to the right edge he's been fairly quiet.

I agree with the OP in many respects, I believe he is a first grader, and think that he has defense issues, but think they are greatly exaggerated, with people focusing heavily on errors.
Our current wingers sre better, but believe he is a first grader for sure
