Marina Go resigns Barry O'Farrell appointed

I'm not upset about his appointment and hopefully he can pick up where Marina left. Whoever the WTs appointed, people would still be taking pot shots and questioning their ability to fulfill the role. Time to let it go and see if he has the goods to take us to new level. Bring on the footy.

At the risk of being a very large hypocrite I agree Happy. When I heard of the appointment I was very upset and blasted off some posts which frankly I am now ashamed about and apologise for. Anybody who is willing to give their time and effort to improve the Tigers club should be given an opportunity to succeed. Running a club like this is not a simple or easy task. Frankly its a thankless task and he doesn’t need people like me and others taking pot shots at him.
I look at Barry’s career and realise how much he has achieved and realise how little I have and how much I have not given to this club. If he is willing to give it a go I will give him my support. Maybe he will have the magic panacea that will fix all our woes at the NRL, heaven knows we need it.
And as for calling him an old fart, I realise that I am 1 year older than him. So Barry, from one old fart to another, good luck mate give it you best shot.

You have my respect

I would like to congratulate Barry O’Farrell on his appointment as the new Wests Tigers Chairman and I would also like to thank Marina Go for her thankless efforts in turning our club around at the front office.

ps I’m sick of the hypocritical doomsdayers who come out guns blazing at every decision the club makes and become wagon jumpers. Think people before you post.

I personally wonder what Barry's psudonym on here is going to be..I could see him using @tigers2005premiers but I think that ones taken already. All jokes/politics aside, this is not a left or right issue, it's a great appointment by our club - couldn't be happier having Barry as chairman of this great club of ours.

We need a sarcasm button Kul

I was joking with CB …some on here are like that .. like the proverbial schizophrenic hitchhiker

Most make measured posts based on solid information

I don't know too much about NSW state politics or Barry O'Farrell but I will say this Most politicians don't willingly fall on their own swords for a bottle of Grange ...look at the current federal pollies ....but people make mistakes and should be given a chance to redeem themselves

If all these other highly reputable boards (who really rely on their reputations for funding ) have faith in Barry maybe we should give him a shot

He can't do any worse than some others we have had in the position

Word of advice though Barry ...you have a very large pair of stilettos to fill ...Marina has done an admirable job off field and if we'd made the 8 in her time she would have ticked every box bar a premiership

I know 3 boards I could be on in Gladstone and be on just short of 40 k

And none of those are even linked to Boyne Smelter , QAL or Rio Tinto Yarwun

# Go’s parting shot at NRL

MARCH 13, 2019

Outgoing Wests Tigers chair Marina Go has fired a parting shot at the NRL, claiming she felt disrespected during her time as an NRL club executive.

Go announced last week she would leave the position she has held since 2014, replaced by former NSW premier Barry O’Farrell.

In a frank admission during Fox League’s fan forum *League Life: Taking Back The Game* , Go said the NRL has some way to go to meet the progress made in the corporate world in the area of women in leadership.

“Yeah, look, it happens a lot,” Go said when asked whether she felt her voice wasn’t considered as important. “I was one of two female chairs in a group of 16, and there were many times negotiating with the NRL I had to negotiate through one of the men, because that’s just how I could get my view across.

“It’s not unusual. The business community has moved a little bit more forward, but still it’s a challenge, it’s always been a challenge for a woman in leadership.”

ARL commissioner Megan Davis is spearheading a review into NRL culture, and Go expects the issue to feature prominently in her findings.

“Hopefully it will cause the leadership to look at strategies to bring more women into the game,” Go said. “We need to hear from more women, about some of their challenges and perspectives … This will be a turning point for the game.”

Go appeared alongside NRL CEO Todd Greenberg, Broncos CEO Paul White, Raiders coach Ricky Stuart and Fox Sports’ Yvonne O’Keefe, Lara Pitt and Mark Gasnier during the panel show, the NRL chief conceding there was plenty of room for improvement in promoting a stronger female voice.

“That hasn’t been my experience dealing with Raelene Castle, Lynne Anderson and Rebecca Frizelle,” Greenberg said. “[But] if that sort of view comes from Marina, we’ve got to do better. Part of that review will be telling us those things.”

White said a strong female presence at Brisbane left the club in a “very fortunate” position, but accepted the gender balance at Red Hill isn’t the norm.

“Over half my executive team are women, which is a bit of an outlier for a sporting club, but they’re the best people for the job,” the Broncos chief executive said. “They provide great opinions and that sends a strong message to our staff, our players. I’m very fortunate in that respect.”

The wide-ranging discussion also covered player behaviour, the salary cap and third party agreements, stadiums and expansion.

What a disgrace. The culture in this organisation needs to change., It is allowed to exist because of the lack of leadership from the top. Todd needs to go.

Bring Marina back as CEO of the NRL. Things will change then.

If anyone has seen the ad featuring another NRL sex tape/pregnancy scandal on Ch 7 I know all of you will be shocked.

PS. As has been mentioned on this thread, if it is true that two Directors were instrumental in undermining Marina Go, both should be gone. There is no room for disloyalty.

I have never felt so poorly as a man since Julia Gillard was treated with such a lack of respect by Alan Jones, Tony Abbott and our very own Robbie Farah.

I don't think Go is going to go away.

I think O'Farrell will be good. He will be able to give as good as he gets in the political realm of NRL power structures where experience has now shown us we are being targeted by said powers as equal or worse than Cronulla!!!!!! He will know how to fight them, promote us and show hypocrisy.

if you watched last night Marina was talking about Pascoe and Ricky Stuart literally cut her off mid sentence to roll off with his beef

And don’f forget that he smoke cigars with Ray Dib so he can get some sage advice on running a football club whenever he needs it.
