Mark O’Neill resigns (fired)

No decision was made by anyone other than Mark O'Neill. He resigned. Simple.

Doesn't really matter if he jumped before pushed or whatever. It was his call. He's gone.

The thing I love about forums though, and particularly this one, is that a few wannabe's are 'in the know'. Makes me feel better about myself knowing that there are people out there who are bigger knobs than I.

I am not making comment on particulars of this episode but shows how the social situation has evolved. A player like Tedesco can get whalloped week in and week out and virtually no penalty to the attacker - but if one word is said about the fairer gender then heaven help us. But I am not against such policy just pointing out.

The unfortunate event occurred at a sanctioned Wests Tigers event for administrive staff so someone has to ask, what happened to the RSA, for Mark to have done what was allegded then the person that kept plying him with booze should be held accountable.

No, Mark should be held accountable for his own actions.

Why is it always someone else's fault?

The worst thing with this story is it was dealt with internally by Pascoe, he was given as harsh a punishment without being punted as you will get, and Go agreed & signed off on it. When JT got word of it all, he complained to another board member who has brought it all up again and demanded O'Neill get the punt. Doesn't take much to guess which side of the board that person was from….

Which must suggest that it is far worse than what is being reported and had been multiple situations

O'Neill could take the club for everything including the kitchen sink otherwise …..

What happened has already been mentioned in this thread, that is 100% on the mark. Was one compromising situation.

Well if what was said is true O'Neill may have a case

Staff can't be terminated or even threatened with termination after a single offence

I've had to deal with up to maybe 8-9 situations now , some far worse than this and you can't just fire someone

Simple as that , the world's a different place in 2016 , people need to be counselled , everyone gets a 2nd chance :deadhorse:

Its probably more likely he was demoted big time or moved to another area /position because of his indiscretions and he quit because of that

Staff can definitely be terminated after a single offence if it is sufficiently serious and the more senior they are the higher the standards by which they will be held to account. You're right though, it wasn't necessarily a threat of termination, it could have been some other loss of face like a loss of position coupled with the offer of a payout if he walked that caused him to resign.

Senior managers often end up out the door after a single indiscretion because they just become too much of a risk for the organisation. It's easier to give them a payout and move them on and the organisation has plenty of leverage because the manager doesn't want to cripple their future career/marriage by taking legal action and making the finer details of their indiscretion public.

I've been in senior management roles and there definitely are different standards expected, and demanded, to other staff. One thing I do know though, if O'Neill thought he was getting the short end there are avenues to challenge. He didn't, so this alone tells me he was not in a position of strength.

Most managers would resign anyway so as not to have "terminated" on their Record.

Justin Pascoe overseas and the playing group unhappy about O'Neill - as being reported by James Hooper on radio. Also reiterated that Broses Teddy Woods Noffa are all up for contract negotiation.

Don't agree mate as have seen this happen many times especially when there is a female CEO or Chairperson. While you were on "leave " there were comments about RF making sexist comments and being in trouble with Go so I reckon if buckets did something wrong involving a female staff member he would get the bullet. Is it right ? In a male dominated environment probably would have been swept under the carpet but things have changed a lot now so I reckon he has made a mistake and as Willow said will pay for it for the rest of his life.

Curious that anybody other than the Board and CEO would be privy to what would be a confidential independent investigation.

Well it seems the desicion is made, one way or the other Mark has to live with what he has done…a real shame that he has done something that he regrets no doubt he has tainted his image as he seemed like a really good bloke on the couple of times I have met him...

Yeah I'm a bit shocked by this, tbh. O'Neill has always come across as mature, decent sort of bloke who I thought was beyond this perverted type of behaviour. Guess you can never really know someone.

You guys are bloody idiots. If you get done for sexual harassment in a modern workplace you are gone, no matter who you are. End of story.

Agreed cat. I don't think we need to read conspiracy theories into it.

For example, the CEO of David Jones back in around 2010 (Mark McInnes) was accused of sexual harassment. He resigned (or was forced to resign).

Modern organisations don't tolerate that type of behaviour these days. And fair enough too.

I remember after the 2005 grand final, he was interviewed on the channel 9 morning show. He was blind and tried to crack on to Tracy Grimshaw on air. No harm, no foul, but it was the first thing I thought of when I heard of his current troubles.

Far worse than what Hap?
What happened exactly?

Well going off what Benjirific said , White comments must be right

He exposed himself to a PA

I can't recall that being stated specifically. It is just another guess at what happened I'd say.

good luck to him on trying out with Tracey - never let a chance pass by. Would have loved to seen live.
