At this point we have more or hope of unearthing another Benji or Tedesco. I thought we may have had something with Simpkin, but he’s been a big disappointment so far. Especially when you see guys like Walker and Walsh who are a year younger come in and take games by the scruff of the neck.

Yes but some people on here demand instant success or you are a dud/failure.You need patience with nearly all young players and Simkin is no different.

I think we all need to cool our heels a bit on the hysteria for Walsh, Walker and Suaalii etc. They're obviously talented. Fair enough. But, smart coaches can limit their influence, as shown by the job TPJr did on Walker last night. I think to be labelling them as "marquee" at this stage is a bit of a stretch, in my opinion. Ask Zac Cini how quickly the fall from penthouse to out-house can be.

That's classic second-year syndrome. First year they burst onto the scene, second year the other coaches now have 12 months of video om them.

It's more of a risk but we tend to stuff up by paying marquee dollars and getting plodders.

Walker and Walsh aren’t. Farah wasn’t at the same age. Usually if a player needs time, he’ll still show you glimpses. He hasn’t shown any imo.

Exactly. Sam Walker is currently a huge defensive liability and with so many regulars out the Roosters could not cover for him against the Broncos. The Bronco's also targeted him when they were defending and he was a lot less confident and effective.

All new good players go through this and only the truly great ones can preform when they are the main focus of the opposition. That is why I think it is better to have a team of very good players working together than a team of averages players with 1 or 2 stars.

Who would you go after? Which player would be worthy of 11% of our cap? What expectations would you have of such a player? In what way would he influence team performance?

Tommy Turbo for me, I would make him offer he couldn’t refuse. My expectations would be he would give us the drive and go forward we are currently lacking.
Look what he does to Manly, from easy beats to final 4 since he been on the park.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful but no amount of money will take him away from Manly and his brother - they will both be Sea Eagles for life. The only hope would be if he was in his mid thirties, at the end of his career and Manly wanted to offload him - then we’d be first in line to sign him ?

He would be if he was playing at the back of a team that played with some sort of structure and passion every week. That he is the stand out in our mob each week at his young age makes him better than both Walker and Walsh imo.

best way out is 2 make our own at this point in time,im itchin 2 see how mavoni ,kei cooper etc progress.Taipari,is the next wonder kin,in the halve's.

C'mon,Taipari is long odds to ever play first grade. Only played a handful of NSW cup games as there's so many players ahead of him

That’s pretty much like most of his games in KOEC. So far I am underwhelmed.

Yes a Marquee coach signing is definitely the priority !

Just another coach will do, this one has made a bad 20 point per game defence, a 30 point per game defence in 3 years, he has failed dismally , and attracted zero sought after players

I think Simkin has done well at this stage of his career. Hookers like halves need to build combinations and confidence with those around them. He has had little time, this kid is good, give him a chance.
