MARSHALL AND BLAIR TO PLAY IN ALL STARS MATCH

Wests Tigers will be represented by Kiwi internationals Benji Marshall and Adam Blair in the 2012 Harvey Norman Rugby League All Stars match at Skilled Park on Saturday, February 4.

As the NRL All Stars captain, Marshall was an automatic selection alongside Storm hooker Cameron Smith and two “coach’s picks” by Wayne Bennett in the 20-man squad.

Marshall will play five-eighth with Blair being named as an interchange player. The selection of Blair already shows how popular the new Wests Tigers player is with supporters.

The public were given the chance to choose only one player from each of the 16 NRL clubs from a 64-man shortlist (two forwards and two backs from each club). Over 45,000 Rugby League fans took part in the voting for both the NRL All Stars and Indigenous All Stars teams.

If one of the NRL All Stars players announced today withdraws from the team due to injury, he will be replaced by someone from the bench. The open bench spot will then be replaced by someone from the injured player’s club.

All I can say is just don't let either of them get injured. Would have loved to see Beau in the mix but meh, It will be a great opportunity to see Blair get a run.

That would be cool. I'd rather that than the hour long dance they had last year…

Really hoping Benji and Blaire don't get injured. Has the full team list been announced yet?

Absolutely!

The NHL in North america do that and apparently its awesome fun.

an All stars challenge would be epic -

fastest player sprint challenge

passing challenges, trick plays, goal kicking, field goal challenges, all would be fun to watch.
 
Maybe a match race over the 100 metres to see who the fastest in the NRL Have one from each club and put out a $10000 prize to the winner

I was expecting Ellis since I've heard he rates him, and that he missed out last year due to injury.
 
I see Tony Williams is the Manly player in the team. Would have been interesting to see Blair and a Stewart brother as "team mates"! :laughing:
 
Why is Bennett a walk up for the coaching role every year? I think we should be able to vote for the coach as well, or maybe as a consolation the Dally M coach of the year or the premiership winning coach gets to take control of the All Stars. Just to keep things fresh and interesting.

Well Bennett is bloody good. I think it would be a good concept to have several coaches per team that were legends of the game. Ie Lockyer, Johns, Elias, Sterlo etc and players like Preston Campbell, Dave Peachey, Meninga etc for the Indigenous side. Obviously they would need some coaching ability but it's just a thought.

As far as Bennett picking Hornby as his "coaches selection", I guess it goes to show even the Super Coach has a "Sheens moment" every now and again!

I'd take the Hornby selection more as a personal acknowledgement of how good Hornby has been throughout his career. He's only played a handful of rep games if that. The blokes about 30 odd and probably has limited time left. I honestly believe its waynes way of saying well played mate.

At least Blair is a benchy…only on for roughly half the game....wouldve prefferred to see him for the first time this year in our colours

I dont see the point in old blokes like Bailey, Hindmarsh playing this....should be for young non rep players with <100 NRL games under their belts...guys like Yow yeh, Ayshford, Peats, long hair titans bloke, The sharks fullback whos name escapes me etc etc
