Marshall Dumped as Kiwi Captain

Could go either way for us,Benji will star and prove them wrong,or Benji will sook and play like a busted.
 
Don't think it should affect his on field performances for us. He's mature beyond his years so I would be surprised if it does affect him to the degree that his performances would suffer. So long as he starts the season relatively well i'd think he'd be right.
 
Kind of a dog move given how publicly fired up he was about players choosing Origin over NZ.
Never a good look to take away a captaincy, especially someone so high profile.
Hopefully doesnt backfire on our season.

you guys are way too harsh on Benji, I feel really disappointed for him, being emotional about your mates leaving doesnt make you immature.

Must be upsetting for him, I hope that Kearney explained all the reasons and framed it well.
 
See what happens when you get married in the off season. His life has already started the downward spiral.

That says more about his passion and loyalty then it does about maturity.

As for the captaincy, he will be gutted and rightly so. But the right decision has probably been made. Plenty of great players have had the captaincy taken off them for various reasons, hopefully Benji takes it as a challenge to come back and perform.
 
My bet this is more about Mannering and NZ slowing down the game. Mannering is the polite pain in refs ear, who has made an art of slowing things down. If he scored a point for each time he questions a refs call each game he would be your Dream Team captain!

Just wanted to add Marshall would be the only reason they would be able to beat us in the World Cup! May be a blessing for NZ that Marshall not have the Captaincy in what I am predicting an Oz v NZ final.
 
My bet is he's been crap for us and is generally crap in rep games and they are just waking up to the fact

He is immature still tho….very quick to lose his cool
 
This is not a tragedy for Benji and I am sure that he is quite mature enough to realise it. Much worse things can happen in football, i.e. Tuquir'si latest, possibly career ending, injury and Tedesco's season ending injury. Benji has been through similar setbacks and will let his footbal ability, dedication and action on the field do all the talking.
 
I wonder if they're thinking that benji is no longer a shoe in for a spot in the team, with foran and Johnson seen as a better option
 
I'd say Benji/Foran are still first choice given Johnsons 2012 where he was dropped due to form.
 
NZ won the World Cup because of Benji, and he was captain at the time. Seems like a strange thing to do to me - to announce that they are taking the captaincy away from Benji without saying who the new captain is. I hope its not to make way for SBW.

My guess is this is about Benji's relationship with Kearney. He's the one who deserves to be dropped, if anyone.

Benji is a confidence player, and his confidence is already down because of the way we ended the season last year. This might not be the blessing some of you are predicting.

Better for us they announced it now so his cheer squad and Potter can get in his ear and pump up his tyres again before the comp starts.
Would have been a MASSIVE kick in the guts for him (and embarrassing in his eyes), hope Kearney was decent enough to lay out his reasoning.

That may be so but the only important games New Zealand have won in the last decade have been because Benji Marshall has almost single handedly beaten the best team of footballers ever assembled. I think some here are actually pretty quick to forget that he is an unbelievably good footballer. He can't be expected to single handedly beat Australia every time he pulls on a kiwi jersey, he's already done it like three times and nobody else could or would have.

Have to agree, Marshall looks low in form but that is such a disgrace to take the NZ captaincy off him without informing us why,
Etc.

This year is suppossed yo be be the new begining BUT to me its the begining of the END for NRL
