Marshall set to sign $4m deal to stay with Tigers

Poor move. The sooner we got rid of him the better. The most overrated footballer since 2005\. Ive never liked him so it #$^% me off to see this.

Some members of this forum have short memories.

Marshall is pure class. He hasn't had the best start to the season but his form over the last few years has been for the most part very good.

Off the field he gives the club great marketing opportunities and is a hero to many young fans. He also has a few great charities that he works with.

Signing him as a one club player is just awesome news.

x2 Well said.

Hopefully the news is true and he is signed up long term.

What odds they confirm this 21st or 22nd may.

A bit reckless imo…..we saw how much grief Kilos injury gave him, a player that relies on speed off the mark even moreso with the same problem could be even worse

...but yeh we need some good news atm so apparently this is it

As much as i wouldn't like to see him play against us , it's been that long since he's played consistentley well week in week out . I agree he is very Marketable but you can't tell me in 3 or 4 years time he will be worth $800,000 a season .
P.S i wonder what Keithy must be wondering about his worth?

I hope he signs & is a one team player. but people are guessing how much the money will be, but good luck to him if he gets it.

NOOOO!
This will be the worst decision this club has ever made!
Do not waste any more money on this flash in a pan glorified touch player. I'd love to see him playing for another club, then everyone would start seeing him without their rose coloured glasses on.
He must be laughing to himself thinking the worse I play the more they want to pay me.

Whilst Benji's form on the field could do with an injection (vegemite nothing else) he still adds a lot to the profile of the club with sponsors and kids in particular. He is synonymous with the Wests Tigers. I would love to see him back to his form of the past but would also hate to see him with another club if moved on due to current form, give him a chance to turn it around. Good luck to him he gets what the market is willing to pay.

X 2\. He is a marketing machine. Hopefully we can find him a halfback to compliment his game

X 3\. A decent half back will make all the difference along with some other players coming through.

Of course we all want a winning club, but it is not the be-all and end-all to a strong club.

Weve had seven years to buy a decent halfback….the penny hasnt dropped for those entrusted with these crucial decisions.
We are a joke of a club sometimes

Just a question. How much of the reportedly 800k a season will go towards the cap seeing as though he will have been at the club for over 10 years? Surprised no one has mentioned it yet.

Does this 10 year discount apply every year past ten, or is it just for the 1oth only?

Mixed feelings….At his best, he's lethal, but his lack of consistancy and poor defence seems to outweigh his brilliance a lot of the time. There is no doubt he is a top bloke and i love it when guys commit to 1 club.
When he turns it on he is just a buzz to watch, though when he makes silly errors I just cringe, especially given the fact he is a senior player and silly stuff is not a good example for the younger players coming through.
If we can get him at a good price, thats great, if not maybe the money's best spent elsewhere.
I would like to think he'll stay and cut out the dumb plays, is that realistic?

I have very mixed feelings like many others. I dont see Benji on the form he has displayed in the last year and half as being in the superstar category which the reported money would be appropriate for. And I dont like the way his last contract has been reported as having been negotiated - with a handshake to revisit if the salary cap increases (if I understand correctly). Benji signed a long term contract which gave him a level of security in the event of a career ending injury; yet he gets the upside of the the subsequent higher cap as well.

I wouldnt want the guy playing for another club but it seems to me his manager has pulled off one sweet deal with his last contract and is about to pull off another.

he's done it so far this year. but without any finishing power in the centres of wings (except koro) he struggled to find any try assists like normal but scored a few which was good. doubt potter will tolerate the same stupid decision making that sheens did

I don't quite understand people taking about Mitchell Moses and to a lesser extent Luke Brooks. Moses has only played a couple of U/20 games and has had a coupe of broken legs (I think) - who knows if he is going to make it. One only has to think of Blake Lazarus or Jacob Miller as the next big things that never went on with it.

Admittedly, Brooks is a little more proven but how do you compare that to a golden boot winner who is the focal point of our attack?

Benji might not have been at his best this year or last but he was behind a beaten pack and numerous combinations of halfbacks that were not of first grade standard. Give him the right support and I am sure he will be the champion we know he is.

I say Hussah!!

I too have mixed feelings, I think it is a good decision, but I reallly hope that he doesn't rest on the 2005 tigers and sit back and watch the money come in. If he has signed, hopefully he comes out a plays like he should for the money they are throwing at him.

Woods should be the next signing, get him signed before origin and his price booms. He's a winner no matter what, he has talent dripping from him, and is going t be in huge demand, with clubs throwing bucket loads at him. Get him signed.

Good news.

Penrith released a few star players to give themselves money to spend on new players. But then struggled to attract the same quality that they lost.

All the clubs will have extra money. lower/mid table clubs seems desperate for quality halves. I think it is hard to sign a replacement.
