Marshall will win Dally M

I think its out of Marshall,Sandow & Thurston

Foran,Slater & Smith are massive chance but i think they will miss on the fact that other players in their teams have polled better in the last month a bit like why Farah or Marshall hav'nt won it in the past.
Cherry Evans has been MOM in every game that they have won in the last match & so has Cronk for the storm

So Marshall to take it out :sign:

since round 16:

Against Eels = 0 points
Against Cowboys = 3 points
Against Roosters = 1 point
Against Manly = 3 points
Against Dragons = 1 point
Against Penrith = 0 points

That's eight points since voting went secret, which puts him 1 point behind Thurston who wouldn't have picked up any points since voting went behind closed doors. Considering the caliber of our opponents in the final three games, Benji should be able to pick up 4-6 if not 9 points in the remaining three games if he fires like we all know he can. But i don't know how that would rank him with the likes of Slater and Sandow who are IMO, his biggest threats.

Benji was official fan of the match against Parra (channel 9 judge is the same as Dally M) and I reckon he may get more points against each of the games Roosters, Panthers and Saints
He is a very good chance to win it.

The parra game he has pencilled in as zero for benji was our 22-6 loss.
I don't think he would have scored against penrith but I agree he probably got more than 1 against the dragons.

If Sandow has two more good games he will get the dally M. His form has been crazy lately.

Agree about Sandow unfortunately….

Benji is not out of the mix just yet and I'm Hoping he nabs 6 pts out of the next two games.

i must be watching something different about sandow. still cant defend and a few good games recently surely could not even have him within cooee in the final reckoning for the dally m. to me cronk has been the most consistent half all season and way ahead of any sowfscum player. my top four are cronk, slater, smith and benji

regardless of how they have performed for the whole year, the tally is as it is after round 16 which shows sandow (somehow?) thereabouts and having a few probable vote getting games since. have to admit it would be kind of funny if he does win it given souths have let him leave!

blackpearl, you do realise you have a top 4 containing 3 storm players? surely melbourne players should poll heavily, but given the very nature of voting it means the best player overall doesn't necessarily win - particularly if he has another 2 champions in the same side (let alone same game) vying for votes….

not trying to have a go at you or anything.

Sandow is favourite for mine, which pretty much sums up this award, not a lot of credence in it for me. Benji this year has a great chance and the reason is not because he is playing better football than previous seasons but simply that Farah hasnt been as dominant and isnt taking points of him. Some award huh!

I wonder if there is any tinkering of results so the winner is someone that the NRL or daily telegraph or whoever is behind the award actually want to win it.
Im sure there isnt but it wouldnt suprise me.

Whatever the outcome i think it will be close

The Dally M Awards are less than two weeks away and with last year’s winner Todd Carney now out of the running, a new king of the game will be crowned at Sydney’s Town Hall on Tuesday September 6.

After voting went behind closed doors at the end of Round 16, Johnathan Thurston was leading comfortably from Paul Gallen, but injuries to both players has given others the opportunity to play catch up.

But the Dally M Player of the Year is not the only award up for grabs. A total of 19 awards will be awarded on rugby league's 'night of nights' including Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year, Captain of the Year and nine positional awards which constitute the Team of the Year.

Benji Marshall is the Tigers’ leading contender, in the running for Player of the Year as well as a swag of other Dally M awards**.

He was sitting in eighth position with 14 points when the voting went behind closed doors. His blistering form to lead the Tigers’ charge up the ladder could see him simultaneously climb up the Dally M standings.

Marshall is currently equal second in the point-scoring tally, sitting level with the Warriors’ James Maloney on 168, just 17 behind Souths’ Chris Sandow.

Despite Benji’s impressive personal tally, it’s the work he does to put his teammates through holes that really shows off his play-making flair.

He is the current competition leader for try assists and sits in second for tackle break assists, standing him in good stead to win Five-Eighth of the Year.

**Robbie Farah** is well on the way to securing a back-to-back Hooker of the Year award. The Tigers captain, who won the award in both 2007 and 2010, has been inspirational for his team this year.

His front line leadership is exemplified by the fired-up Tigers’ form heading towards to finals. The team has faced plenty of distraction and pressure this season and Farah’s work to keep them on track places him as a candidate for Captain of the Year.

Dally M Player of the Year Scoring (at Round 16)

Johnathan Thurston: 24
Paul Gallen: 18
Kieran Foran: 15
Billy Slater: 15
Glenn Stewart: 14
Cooper Cronk: 14
Cameron Smith: 14
**Benji Marshall: 13**
Chris Sandow: 12
Corey Parker: 11

absolutely correct imo….

whether Benji does well or not in dally M does not matter.

simply is it a true testament to his character to overcome the obstacles he has endured during his career.

a time will come when he is one dominant person in the game.

Agree with most said here. Awards that are decided by a subjective assessment as opposed to, say, top point scorer, are always open to conjecture.

Remember a few years back the Bulldogs player (Ewen McGrady? O'Grady?) won the Rothmans? Awesome attacking player but couldn't tackle my grandma…

PS - Didn't he play with Wests after this?

I'd love more than anything to see Benji win the Dally M but I really can't see how he will beat Slater. They've won 12 games in a row and he is bound to get at least 1 point for each of those games if it not more… Hopefully if he doesn't win it, it's not by 1 point like has happened to Robbie twice - it makes it so much more painful to take!

Who cares, I want Benji to win the Clive Churchill medal!!

Great point… what would be even better is if after the GF we are all debating whether Benji should have won the Churchill medal or whether 7 or 8 other players deserved it... that way we must have been dominant all across the park and maybe our hearts would not have been tested quite as much as with most games!

I'd take that now if it was on offer!

Sandow may get knocked out of the running if the bunnies don't scrape into the 8.
