Marty Taupau Wants TIgers Return

Good runner of the ball. Things at Manly have gone pear shaped. Wouldn’t be a surprise if they get the wooden spoon. Trent Barrett was advised to get out as he won’t have funds to rebuild. He decided to stick with it for the players.
Guess which player wants out now the going is getting tough. Marty did the same thing with us.

Yeah, he's an imposter.
Likes to present himself like he's a big tough enforcer when really he's a clumsy, I'll disciplined coward.
Big for nothing, no heart, Dave Taylor junior… Running at the small guys and shying away from the burgess boys.

This guy is all hype. We don't need him. Let him get a four hour hair session prior to every game at manly, also a manicure and pedicure.... No thanks.

Martin "The Diva" Taupau

I remember one game when he was with us (I think it was Parra or Canterbury,) one of our smaller blokes got folded in half in a tackle and there was a bit of argy bargy going on, and Taupau actually did his best to not get involved. Pretty sure the same match he was doing push ups at the kick restart after we scored a try.

He is a great runner of the ball with a decent offload, and to his credit he's still having a go while his team is getting dicked, but he is good for cheap penalties and dropping his lollies. Yeah we could use some impact in our pack but the only place I could find room for him is the bench for MCK, who will likely go back to ISP when all our forwards are fit again and Ivan is insistent on carrying a back or hooker on the bench.

Pretty sure Taupau left because of a fallout with Jason Taylor (what a surprise).
Better ball runner and offloader than anyone we've got and can hurt in tackles.
All this talk about him being soft is rubbish … some people can't get over anybody leaving us.
Come home Marty.

The emotions for Marty on this forum are unbelievable….he left us for better money and got it...he now sees us as a club going very well, but the $$$$$ signs were far greater than loyalty and hard work, which this team atm are doing and giving very well...he would be a reasonable bench player at best....and he would want big$$$$ to be there....just my thoughts, but don't let me spoil the emotion party.....

X2

Mercenary.
Chasing money and glory elsewhere.

Disloyal. We scooped him out of ISC and welcomed him with open arms, giving him his first real chance and he walked away as quick as he could when the big money offers came in….

He's good for a few dropped balls. He can stay at Manly stinking it up with the other cry babies.

West's tigers is a place for real soldiers, ready to die for the emblem. That's why teddy, Moses and Woods had to leave. We do not tolerate weak cats.

Yeah Demps, for me he had his chance to do well for us but chose to take the big coin at Manly…..it was his chose so he made his own destiny....

Chasing money elsewhere? thats every player. His stats are bloody good. The other day when Manly lossed he ran over 220 metres. He brings mongrel as well. Id definately be keen to get him. Would nearly make us the best front row in the comp.

Yeah not sure I'd want Marty back. Was pretty quick to split when given half a chance. He made his bed he can lay in it.

Forget Taupau over hyped ,jumped ship as soon as he could ,I would NEVER pay the money he wants for the short burst he puts in has no motor at all .For a big man his defence is soft Cleary will not pay that money for a bit player he will not be at our club!

We had the massive back-loaded cap issues, I don't think it was Marty alone that determined his fate. All I remember is that when he left, he did it without bagging the club and actually said some complimentary things about JT.

There was nothing about his exit that reflected poorly on him. I would have him back in a second.

5 pages of posts and I finally found one saying it as it is.

Put very simply he wasn't a Jason Taylor type of player. He was encouraged to leave rather than encouraged to stay

Meeeeow

Its not going to happen, but he is a type of player we need to win the close games. Also I get the feeling Cleary is attracted to players who have their egos well and truly in the back ground and Marty has his way out in front for all to see

Marty was great for us and this has continued at Manly in what is a pretty average pack other than Jake T. I see him around the beaches a lot, looks a very humble family man with his kids and my daughter who serves him his coffee says he is a very nice man. Nothing I can see to suggest an ego out of control. Would love to see him back in the black and gold, maybe even as a wide running backrower, he's a pretty versatile forward who has been forced into full time front row at Manly given their weakness there

We must have signed up the roosters accountant recently with all these players coming here

If we have signed the Roosters accountant, this will be our best ever signing.

Absolutely! Have been saying this for years! This is where we need to improve themost!

Why No Naquama?
I get his form in 2016 wasn't the best, he also did not play well as fill in Fullback. However he has been good in 2017 and awesome in 2018\. He and MWZ have defended on their side of the park well and I think Kevie has set up most of MWZ tries.

I would take him over Rona and Founa at the moment.

Marty would walk into our team and be in our top 2 forwards, if not the best. But lets not sign him because he left when the club had massive cap issues and couldn't afford to keep him.

If he does want to come back then we should welcome him with open arms. Massive upgrade on a number of our current forwards. Add a couple of class outside backs and we'd be a serious contender.

All that, plus if memory serves, not only no issues whatsoever with the coach, but big ones with the senior player at the club. That is all water under the bridge now and they are both now playing north of that bridge, albeit at different clubs and levels.

Happy to have Marty back on favorable terms.

To back up my earlier post

Speaking exclusively to foxsports.com.au on the day Manly trumpeted the signing of the Kiwi international, Taylor explained why the Tigers would be better off without Taupau.
“It’s a pretty simple story for us. We made Marty an offer earlier in the year, which after a bit of to-ing and fro-ing he decided to knock back,” Taylor said.
“He obviously went and investigated his options throughout the back end of the year … there was a lot of talk that he was a bit restless and that was due to the fact that he was talking to other clubs.

“It became clear to us that he’s obviously been offered some really good money for 2017 and that he was going to take up that option.
“For us as a club when it was clear that he wasn’t going to be here for 2017 it was a fairly simple equation, in that if we let Marty go now as opposed to keeping him for one more year, we can take some money forward in our salary cap and we can put ourselves in a much better position to keep our best young players.”

Rubbish

Rugby League is a business, to us fans it isn’t but too the players it is plain and simple

He was offered over 100k more a year, to move to a much more stable and better run club at the time.

Now, we’re a much better well run club and we’re looking likely for upcoming success with a better coaching structure and cooreprate backing

We can’t deny the fact that during that period we were terrible, with a goose like JT as coach which was evident was another reason he left and I’m sure JT would’ve more pushed him out too, to the salary caps problems, to the Robbie vs Potter/JT and he played his guts out throughout still remember his game against the Rabbits where he murdered the burgess brothers

Everyone on this forum would be kidding if they said they wouldn’t move to another work place for 100k more a year, it’s a short career for about 12-13 years if you’re lucky in the NRL after that they’re basically unemployed unless you’re a star player where you’ll get chopped up in the media, you can’t get angry at someone for taking the better option.

He left on better terms, left early and gave us time to find a replacement and told the tigers as it was….. at least he didn’t string them is along the next season to build his value up for other clubs or as Politis told Gould “develop him more” (Moses) or dogged it.

He owed us nothing at all

He would be arguably our best forward competing with Packer

He always puts in he ran for over 200 meters last week for gods sake

Sick of hearing this loyal rubbish, he was at the club for a few years

He would walk into our squad, a big improvement on Aloiai or Sue. He didn't leave on bad terms, we let him go early when we didn't have to. That would have earned some gratitude from him.

We have the money and the need, they have the need to sell. They're a sinking ship unlikely to compete for a few years, like we were when he left. We're now a much stronger club than they are and would be appealing, the same way other clubs have often been to our players.

You'd take him at 500k for 3 years

Come home Marty.

Ivan has to want him first.

I don't begrudge him for going, players have to make hay while the sun shines, and let's face it we we struggling and Manly were doing OK at the time. He didn't chuck his toys out of the cot or anything but if it indeed is true that he wants back in, it kinda reflects on him that he probably doesn't like hanging around at clubs when the chips are down rather than trying to lift back out of it.

Anyway, if Ivan takes him, he'll obviously want him to buy in and it will be at the right price. He's got us competing with a squad everyone had pegged for being virtually winless after the first six rounds, now he has to start picking off talent to complement the toilers.
