Marty Taupau Wants TIgers Return

LOL Bird ..jesus we get hammered by the refs enough as it is.

ur right but gee he bends the line and he is a great defender, better than we have even at his age, would be good for 1/2 a season.

Greg Bird is 34 years old and well passed his best - not even worth considering. He is also a total flog - last type of guy we want at the club when trying to rebuild our culture.

Marty would add something to our side but it’ll be almost impossible to get him back here imo

I read this morning that a Manly player was dirty that $100k in TPA had not been paid to him and he was speaking with other clubs.

Might explain the Taupau rumours?

I would offer him a 3/4 year deal without thinking twice.. He has passion and not afraid of the tough stuff. International star and would be happy to pay $600k

600k wont get him

When he is on he is one of the best forwards in the game. Would immediately transform our pack. We would be kidding if we didn't make a run at him.

Heaps of teams would want Marty. In Sydney the Roosters and Parra would both be keen… he would be great but struggling to see home back here

He is a forward that can really bend the line, and when he was here seemed to fit in well before , and under Cleary, i think he would only improve. If there is any truth in the rumour, we should get him back.

I don't recall him playing under Cleary. Am I wrong?

I meant to put 600k plus … Hoping for 600k but I would think it would take 800k to have him consider it.

290m today Agaisnt the roosters. could be more than our whole forward pack against the warriors. Pay him whatever he wants.

He is the complete opposite to our pack which is what you need. No one in our pack can even remotely do what he does in terms of bending the line.

I think he meant "If he was under Cleary"

Fair enough unfortunately 800k is about the figure that he would want

Good investment in my opinion.

540 meters gained in his last 2 appearances combined…...

I don’t understand how you wouldn’t want that in your team especially when it currently lacks that punch in attack by the forwards

Now people are thinking. Do we want X? Probably YES.

Do we want Woods back, Tedesco, JAC or sign Merrin, Jason Taumaulogo, Val Holmes.

Any of Those players… 100% YES for less then 300K! In a second, no questions asked, DONE!

Is that 100% unrealistic YES!

The key is do we want them for their asking price? If Val Holmes is asking 500K, I think yes. If he is asking 900K No.
If Manly front load Taupau by 150K per year then we could be talking a pretty good deal. They free their cap and we sign a guy who is playing great to almost beast worthy. If were talking 800k straight and we don't get to fix our Fullback/wing problem, then... regretfully NO. That could mean we miss Cleary and upgrading our local talent.

It's a balancing act. We need to get Great players in our team but we can't do an Easts and splurge on 5 superstars and watch the bus crash. Our Splurge will be Nathan Cleary, he will cost about 1 Million and he is probably worth 800k. If signing him keeps Ivan, it's worth it. We just can't do it for all the names that hit us.

Exactly what teddy23 says. Ofcourse we want him. How much though is the question. Jason T. I would open the checkbook for as he consistently seems to make 200m per game. Marty, 600K YES. But more then this you lock out Nathan Cleary and other superstars.

BTW I would NOT be offering Marty a 4 year deal unless it was in our favour. Ideally 2 years, maybe 3 tops.

Manly won't let Taupau go they will off load other players first if required for salary cap compliance purposes!!

If they do offload players they still need to replace them in their top 30 with another player who would need to be on at least minimum wage (which seems to be about 100k)
If they offload those on smaller salaries they would only have a small net gain and would need to offload several of these players. They already have minimal depth, and are long odds to make the finals. Good chance of a spoon. Makes more sense to lose on top line player than several of the few depth players they have.
