Working miracles with St George _and_ Benji - what a great first up season so far for a rookie coach! It just about kills me seeing Benji playing so well again for another team, but thems the breaks - I wish him all the best.

Good on you Flip, credit where it is due.

Wonder if we could get Robbie to go to Union for a few months and then bring him back?

Benji is playing well. Its obvious he'd run his race here and needed a change of scenery. His best days are behind him though. He's still a third of the player he was 5 yrs ago at his best these days. He's like a better version good of Peter Wallace or Jarrod Mullen

Another example of get your d right and the attack will come. His really got his players in form.

On a recruitment note imagine wt had proper management in the past and we were now fielding a team. Brooks, benji, fafita, tedesco, thompon, Dwyer all fit and firing.

But instead we are in another rebuilding faze.

All benji needed was a new coach in 2008/2009\. Sheens needed to go but benji and his ego wouldn't allow this.

I know mary personally and he has given benji the rev up of all rev ups. Sheens would never had done this and i think potter tried to do but didn't have enough support.

I hope jt gives our current squad a good rev up soon!

Yeah he definitely needed a change of scenery. Unfortunately a lot of players seem to get stale here :frowning: I would rate him well above Wallace and Mullen at their best though, in his present form. Widdop has turned out to be a good match with him, the best since Prince, imo. He seems to have gotten rid of his ego and become more of a team player, as well, which is a good thing.

Yeah well said Flip , full credit to him . I thought he did us a massive favour for us when he left but obviously what he needed was a reality check and make him see that he is replaceable and to his credit is going great guns . I'm happy for him .

Well past his best no doubt but good to see that at least we didn't see him finish his Career how he left it with the Tigers.

Interesting reading his post match comments where he said that if he wants his team in the finals they need to focus on D before even focusing on Attack.

Suspect early in the season that was his clear game plan, it didn't yield results but then it's clicked since very well.

His forward pack is built on a backrow model, all workhorses and willing to do all the 1% things right no matter what position they play

Good luck to Mary he is looking the goods so far.

Good post Flip. Mary seems to be a no nonsense type of coach. Not sure what sort JT is. One thing's for sure, they are both focussing on defence, but the Saints have got it down pat. Glad Benji's playing well for them, but the Dragon jersey looks wrong on him. To me he will always be a WT boy.

I'm happy to that he is doing well. Coming from me as a second-generation died in the wool St George hater, vintage 1963 Grand Final, is really saying something.

Having said that, I think it should have been possible to keep him at WT until 2016 in order to help develop and bring in the Brooks/Moses era. It looked to me (from my position in France!) that he was deliberately messed around by management in order to that he would leave. Our loss, Dragons gain.

Benji was just way too comfortable at the Tigers.

He didn't need a coach to tell him he's been useless for years - he knew it VERY well. So he can blame the club, and people can blame coaches, but the fact of the matter is Benji's attitude was shocking for a professional towards the end of his time with us.

I'm happy to see him playing well no doubt, I'll forever be a Benji fan, but I'm still glad we decided to let him go.

St George have a good mix of experience and youth and like with most winning teams their is a lot of energy in their football. Their defense is aggressive and their attack is unpredictable with Benji and Widdop calling the shots.

I was one of the punters who had them as a real candidate for the spoon, how wrong can a bloke be. One thing Marry has proved the value of team work, one thing we seem to have none of at present

You nailed it….Benji just would not listen to Sheens or Potter when they tried to out him in his place....he needed to wake up for himself...he obviously did this at the Dragons...good luck to him...

Has to be a leading candidate for coach of the year given the team he inherited from Steve Price and the way they were playing compared then to now!!

One thing he did inherit was some of the best young forwards. He has them turning up for each other and that wins games when you have a decent spine. They were also one of the first to move to the two hookers in the 17 theory. Not saying they will win the comp but what an improved team they are, even with hit and miss Marshall!

the reason they are winning is because they are running sides into the ground with lots of ball movement, teams are using lots of petrol trying to stop there ball playing and then the dragons are able to contain them, they also look like a team that is happy playing good football, not like our bunch who look bored to death.

Yes but they spent the first month fine tuning both their defence and their attack

Hopefully we are in the midst of doing the same and will come out the other side in a familiar situation

yes we are now 12 weeks in and going backwards, JT needs to let them play football just like the drag queens, we could be better than them if he allowed them the same room to play and the defence will flow from that.
