Matt Groat?

HI All, just wondering what the status of Matt Groat is? Haven't really seen or heard of him since his troubles in early last year. Is he in the mix for a bench spot for 2013? Has he toned or put on weight, built strength and mongrel? Has he missed his chance with a promising new crop coming through?

Just curious.

I wouldn't say he missed his chance, more like he had his chance. He's still with us.

He was going ok until he was smashed in the head by "the grub". What was his name?

Matty will go ok next year.

It was Teo Mate. Yeah grubby act, but we need some of that mongrel in our pack, not the dog act.

IMHO we do not want brainless head hunter thugs like Morley, Matai, JWH, Watts, Ennis etc. we already give away too many penalties :frowning:
Give me Woods, Ellis, Grant, Tamau, Lyon, Farah, C Smith before any of them

Gimmee Teo over Groat any day

We had Teo and the bloke played like he had a heart the size of a pea. Even though Groat doesn't have the ability of the current Teo give me Groat's willingness and ticker anyway over that grub..

I always rated Teo's ability. I was very sad to lose him. If he was a pea heart, your assessment of Groat is very poor.

Groat will hopefully have a much improved season in 2013 after being plagued by injury and a massive dent in confidence during 2012\. He's got some work to do, but this is one kid who won't shy away from the hard yards and he's still only a pup, we haven't seen the best of him yet.

Then why did WT let Teo go?

Teo is money hungry and overrates himself

Some clubs are desperate enough to pay overs

With The Tigers having Ellis,Dwyer coming through Rhino ,Fulton and BMM we weren't going to pay overs

Right decision in my opinion at the time Same with Fifita

I think we all need to cut Groat some slack. He's a young bloke who was thrown in the deep end by Sheens at the beginning of this year after showing some potential in 2011\. He suffered injury and our pack was monstered in those early rounds, which would've shattered his confidence somewhat. As many of us have said on here before, props tend to mature later in their careers, rather than earlier. Woods has been an exception to this rule and had a cracker of a season at only 21\. I think we may be inadvertently and unfairly comparing Groat's development to to his. Hopefully Groat will mature into a fine prop for us in the coming years.

Groat has to be one of the most least talented players i've seen in a while. Lucky to still be a first grader in 3 or 4 yrs imo

The kid played front row at 18\. Much tougher than some the keyboard warriors on here

Well said. Most props, especially going back in time take several years to mature. Woods is a freak who has developed super quick. Like someone else said give Groat a chance he may still develop into a solid 1st Grader

You can be tough but still have no talent. I wish him well but I think he will end up on the long list of players that were lacking something.
