He did and he cost us big time in the final against the Warriors. Is it allowed to not rate a player? or is it because he's a Wests player we all must see him as a rising star? Not every young player who comes into fg lasts the journey. IMO Groat will be ones of those players. If having having that opinion is so shocking that it makes me a keyboard warrior to you then so be it
@Cultured Bogan said:He's only a baby. Sheens brought him on too early because he let two props walk out the door. Groat was never ready for it, but if you're a 18-19 year old rookie given an opportunity to start in FG, you're hardly going to knock it back, aren't you?
Give him another season or two to show a bit more development before writing the lad off. The high shot from Te'o would have shaken his confidence a little as well I'd imagine.
@Snake said:Felt for groat last season Sheens butchered the kid …he has the potential but wasn,t ready ,Sheenses inhibility and stupidity to go into a season 2 props short was the down fall of the young fella .Hopefully has overcome the injuries and now with a new coach we could see the real Matty Groat stand up.
@cusschops said:I hope you believers prove me wrong. I'm a Moltzen believer and after last season was losing faith but I'll stick with him. All you Groat supporters should too. All I want is for our team to have a great season.

@MacDougall said:He played in every junior team possible. He dominated everybody and was the best Aussie junior of his age for years. He then came to NYC and actually DIDN'T dominate at all there but got the jump on Begovich on pedigree alone and played alright for a while, as a reserve prop who played about 17 minutes a game. Then he was forced to become a starting front rower at a club notorious for being piss weak in the pigs and got trampled. If the place wasn't run by somebody who so overtly played favourites Groat would still have not made a first grade debut imo, Begovich would have (and probably would be a regular first grader by now but I digress)

He dominated because he was twice the size of everyone else at junior level and played in short 10-15 minute stints. Begovich didn't dominate at junior level but could play for the entire game and I agree would have been close to a regular first grader by now.
Wests Tigers recruitment go scouting players at 14 15 years old in the country areas like Groat and Kitt put them on a scholarship and pay for their education.
Potter will just pick players on form he won't have to keep some recruitment officer happy by playing his players.
@Goose said:All recruitment officers at all clubs look everywhere for talented kids at about the age of 15 to bring them into their system. Our recruitment officers have done a wonderful job of this evidenced by the strength of our NYC side and the talent coming through.

How many recruited NYC teenagers have gone on to be regular first graders as a result of this wonderful recruiting…....Ayshford, Moltzen .....anyone else ?
What kids have our wonderful recruitment found outside our of our local juniors at 15-16 who are now regular 1st graders ? ....and don't say Benji. A lot of scholarships for not much result from what I can see.
Good luck to Groaty I hope he proves to be the exception and has a long career in 1st grade.
