Yes, he might need a locked cell Ink, but for society's benefit, he'll also need mental health help, to prevent this sort of behaviour ( situation) from happening again.

Wests Tigers statement on Matthew Lodge

Sun 18th October, 11:30PM

Wests Tigers have today been informed that player Matthew Lodge was arrested while holidaying in the United States.

Lodge has been charged with a number of offences following an incident while in New York.

The Club has made the decision to terminate Lodge’s playing contract, effective immediately.

Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe said that the Club would not tolerate this type of behaviour.

“The Club is incredibly disappointed to learn that Matthew Lodge has been charged by police while overseas on holiday,” said Pascoe. “We have since made the decision to terminate Lodge’s playing contract with Wests Tigers, effective immediately.

“This type of behaviour does not fit with the culture we are building at the Club, nor is it to the behavioural standards that we accept,” he said. “Whilst our playing contract obligation to Matthew will be terminated, the Club will continue to offer welfare and counselling options to Matthew to ensure he has the support he needs.”

Lodge has not played for Wests Tigers since being stood down on August 21 this year following an incident that resulted in charges being laid against him.

Wests Tigers will be making no further comment on the situation at this stage.

Bravo Justin Pascoe - wasted no time there.

Cry me a bloody river about his mental health.

I don't care if the fricking Roosters pick him up and he scores 5 tries against us. He's making Robert wife-beater Lui look like Ghandi right now in comparison.

The kid is just deranged, and needs to be locked up - good riddance to the germ.

Sorry for those of you who read this last time I posted it.

I asked Lodge at the fan day two years ago about the Bellamy incident. I asked with a laugh, it wasn't insulting but I guess it could be taken as bait at a stretch (I was standing with my 4 and 6 year old.

He didn't say a word. He looked at me like he was going to stand up and rip my head off. There was an anger and volatility there.

We have all seen people like Lodge in our lives. They have a loose screw that with the wrong lubricant comes out and drops into the reasoning gearbox.

Very true in regards to the nutters we know , but if he has heard the question 200 times it can very tedious I guess

I find personally that if you bring up something rather than football that the players relax more and are more forthcoming if you do ask any footy questions

If people have other interests like Farah with Liverpool ,Rowdy with his racehorse , players with their kids talk about that first , it catches them off guard

He's a deadset goose , we may even see him in an upcoming episode of Americas hardest prisons ?!

His actions are deplorable and seem to have been for quite a long time but this seems to be a new low.The club has done the only thing they should do terminating his contract but offering other support.

A very troublesome individual. So much anger in this young man. Due to his aggressive behavioural problems he must see a psychiatrist to help diagnose the problem, receive treatment and hopefully prevent, further mental health and emotional problems.
In the SMH article it says that "A man claiming to have shared a cell with Lodge on Friday night, said the footballer was terrified, scared and didn't remember the events".

I am thinking maybe "ice" was involved

Very true. What must be remembered though is his behaviour is spiralling out of control. He's progressively gotten worse since we all saw him trot out with "catch ya next Tuesday" scrawled on his arm in the U20's origin game.

If he doesn't address his issues the next person that is on the receiving end of his ire may not be as fortunate to survive the encounter. He seems like a very dangerous individual. The Yanks will probably gaol him for the appropriate time because they are sufficiently tough on criminals.

What I fear is when he comes back home after a stint with some of the US crims to our weak system which would see him walk away with a slap on the wrist for similar behaviour.

It's all well and good to say "lock him up, he deserves it," which he does of course, but additionally to gaol time there's an obligation to protect the community from his lunacy when he eventually does come home. As I said, if he goes untreated, the next people might not be so lucky to walk away (I use the term lucky very loosely as his victims in the US should never have had to go through what they did.)

All I know is that this act is well past the point where we should be concerned if another club picks him up and he becomes a superstar. Who cares, he's threatened somebodies life. That's a big difference compared to what the majority of players have their contracts torn up over. The NRL will probably never register him again anyway. And I'd be willing to bet that whatever "issues" he has stem from drugs, which if true I'm not sure why anyone would have sympathy over "issues" that are self inflicted.

No winners in any of this-we lose a promising young forward, he loses a promising career and the game cops another black eye!. Commendably swift and entirely appropriate action from the club to terminate young Lodge's contract.

I'll bet this idiot ends up at the Roosters

I can see it now.
We'll sack him and he will spend a year out of the game. Then Easts will sign him up under the guise of rehabilitating him and helping him get his life back on track.

If something like this happens (which I tend to doubt at this stage) who would we be to complain? We took the guy on after Melbourne booted him hoping to catch a bargain - it's not like the Tigers can say they're shocked the guy turned out to be a moron.

Cultural Marxism, change of the culture so criminals become victims, and victims become guilty 'as they were asking for it" ??? :frowning:

Not really, just think there has to be a better path than prison, out of prison, commit more crimes, back to prison and repeat. Personally I don't think idiots like this shouldn't be punished, but if we just wash our hands of them and assume they are irredeemably evil then we pretty much guarantee that they will be. Or I guess we could lock up every single juvenile thug for life, which would be bloody expensive quite apart from anything else.
