Matt McIlwrick - Commits till 2019..

Great news, McIIwrick has been our best this year by far. Seems like a no nonsense type of player too, just works hard and does his job. A few more players with his character would be much appreciated.

i know he seems to be a forum favourite and admittedly hes been ok but i dont get the massive fuss made over him. defence seems solid enough and he makes a good run here and there but otherwise i struggle to see how he is an improvement on halatau from last season. no kicking game, doesnt engage the markers and service is average at best.

liddle is already a significantly better player then him imo

I think Liddle is a better player as well but I like his defence and I figure we need to smash teams with a decent pack and he adds to that. LIddle will get plenty of game time.

Only two hookers.

Cmon, we have cap to blow. Find Mick Ennis and ask him if he is sick of commentating. Nathan Peats is in contract trouble with the titans, Surely he could use a lifeline and play alternate fullback…. Cmon we have to push this.... Every hooker in the game but Cam Smith come to the tigers NOW!

Ok it's not the worst strategy but if we sign all the hookers, the other team can't play the ball and get it out of Dummy half! We could win the comp... 6 hooker minimum per WT team, it worked for Jason Taylor :crazy

Made me laugh. What a plan. Lets just buy all the hookers and the other teams ont be able to get it out of dummy half. What about if we bought every steeden football in the country and not let other teams have any for training.

It may seem crazy but it's a much better option than having rankin at dummy half

Not MM related but the player in the article wanting to go back to qld to be with his wife who moved back there is Greg Inglis.

Has anything official come of his re signing? If not maybe it's possible we are having a crack at Watson for hooker.

Nothing official, but he's been rumored to be close to re-signing for weeks. There was an article stating that we view as Watson as a hooker. We could be holding out for Watson before making a decision on McIlwrick. But at the same time, McIlwrick has apparently had interest from Parra, which he turned down. You wouldn't turn it down if you didn't think you're position at your current club wasn't secure.

Wests Tigers are pleased to announce that hooker Matt McIlwrick has signed a two-year contract extension with the Club.

The new deal will see McIlwrick remain with Wests Tigers until at least the end of the 2019 season.

Since arriving at Wests Tigers earlier this year, McIlwrick has played every game for the Club so far this season — cementing himself as the starting hooker on every occasion.

The crafty hooker has played 14 games for Wests Tigers in 2017, taking his career total to 43 games since making his first-grade debut for the Canberra Raiders in 2012.

The 26-year-old said he was delighted to be able to remain with Wests Tigers for the next two seasons.

“This Club as been great to me in giving me an opportunity to come here, and I’m very grateful for that,” he said.

“They have supported me from Day One and I’m excited to be a part of the future here.

“There’s a great opportunity here to build something special, and you can already see positive change around the place. I know Wests Tigers are going to be a force to be reckoned with in the coming years.”

Wests Tigers Head Coach Ivan Cleary said he was pleased to have McIlwrick sign on for a further two seasons after settling in well to Wests Tigers this year.

“Matt has shown himself to be a very valued and well-respected member of this team, and will continue to develop into a quality hooker over the next two seasons,” Cleary said.

Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe echoed Cleary’s sentiments regarding McIlwrick.

“Matt is an outstanding individual who continues to display the core values of Wests Tigers on and off the field and we’re delighted to see him extend his stay here,” he said.

“It’s another sign that players are on board with what we’re building at Wests Tigers.”

Very solid signing. Never lets anyone down. Good to see.

Well deserved extra two years, has been the surprise packet this year and with a stronger pack next year may have more opportunities to run from dummy half.

Great signing. At worst, you know exactly what you get with him. I much prefer him over liddle atm. And I don't get why he's had so little game time over the last couple of weeks. If liddle is our future, then he really needs to make good of his opportunity because Matty Mac will take every chance given.
