Matt McIlwrick

From the Mole, make of it what you will.

The Tigers are set to sign talented Sharks hooker Matt McIlwrick to replace club legend Robbie Farah next season.

McIlwrick has hardly got a look-in at the Sharks this season due the the outstanding form of veteran Michael Ennis.

But he sees more opportunity at the Tigers, where he will fight for the hooking spot with promising youngster Jacob Liddle.

For McIlwrick, it will be his fourth club in as many seasons after stints at Canberra, the Roosters and Sharks.

Seems a bit strange,

"Mcllwrick has hardly got a look-in at the Sharks this season due the the outstanding form of veteran Michael Ennis"

So Ennis retires, the only other hooker fighting for the spot is unproven Cherrington, so he decides to move on as well.
Don't know what other hookers they have got although I did hear they were chasing Cook from Souths. If it was me I'd prefer my chances against Cherington than Liddle.

Nu Brown is another who can play 9 at the Sharks .

As for Mcilwrick , 25yo , will probably play a lot of NSW Cup .

Odd, he would leave given that Ennis is leaving and his competition is going to be Cherrington. Maybe he sees Ballin as injury prone and doesn't think he will make the whole season or pre season. And Liddell not an 80min player at this stage so he will get game time.

Odd we would be considering a hooker. We just sold one and have 2 at the club - we need players in other positions.

I think the mole may have chewed on a mushroom while tunnelling under ground to come up with this one, but stranger things have happened.

This has been rumoured for about 2 months now. He was one of the obvious options at hooker for us to look at.

We need to sign a nsw cup hooker plain and simple. Someone cheap, who can step up if Ballin is out, but otherwise someone who's happy enough to play nsw cup for most of the season.

He'd be a very decent option for us.

I'd say this is more a nsw cup signing then anything. With Farah and cherro leaving we needed another hooker signing. Ok with it.

I would say if this is true Ballin will be retiring.

Not necessarily. It might just be an insurance policy given the high risk that Ballin will carry into next season if he is fit.

I think he's the best option available given Baptiste is now locked up.

Why would the club not go after Cook from Souths in the deal with Farah he will be playing reserve grade from next season anyway a good quality player and yes there is more can KICK goals the 2 for one deal that only gets better ,then I woke up and realised I was talking about Tigers management skills.

Cook will be in the 17 with Farah next season, they're moving McInness along to the Dragons I think.

Wouldn't it have been preferable for our club to have two young and very talented hookers battling it out for the NRL Guernsey? By that I mean Cherrington and Liddle. Also, it seems at odds to allow Cherrington to leave with our emphasis on developing juniors.

Then you'd just have them jockeying for position and overplaying their hand which they've made pretty clear they don't want the hooker to be doing. They might also have been concerned about Cherrington's defence in first grade.
