Matt Utai

**If Mitch Brown isnt resigned then i'm not here**. With his 15min the other night he looked so sharp, ran good lines and looked genuinely threatening! We have no other good fullback option which makes me think they are grooming Tedesco for the top job in 2012\. I'd be more then happy to see Brown fill that role for 2012 and give Tedesco another year though

That makes 2 of us!

Get him fit and use him as the utility back on the bench who can have a run in the 2nd row as part of the rotation. That's where i see some longer term value. Don't pay too much for him.

Brown and Daniella would be handy but only on 2nd tier contracts.

Utai has often caused my heart to jump into my mouth this year with his ball handling (or lack of it), but I still reckon he deserves another shot next year. He is a very damaging runner and extremely hard to bring down. Would definitely hang onto Brown and Daniela also deserves another go, after missing most of the season through injury. If Sheens still refuses to use Brown as a permanent fullback, then I would like to see that 'big union unit' playing there, Snake.

Utai and Mitch Brown both deserve another season and I luckily for us I can't see any other teams really trying hard to take them from us. Also I don't think there are any State Cup or Toyota Cup players that realistically deserve a place that's being taken by Utai or Brown, yet.

I agree with your post Mac, regarding these two guys. Utai has done a great job, especially in the last 3/4 rounds, he is improving all the time, and well, Brown is a great utility, and I would love to see him have a crack at the f/b job next season :stuck_out_tongue:

I think you will find Mitch Brown will be re signed for next year and given first chance at full back. He has added goal kicking to add to his value.

Brown looks like a confidence player to me and if allowed to play one position, full back for a period of time we will see him shine. Big, strong and fast. Needs to get more involved and back himself.

The Union bloke will take time in State Cup to develop his game.

Very happy to see Utai and Daniella re signed as well. As we have seen this year you need depth to cover injuries and SOO.

I thought he had an excellent game in the centres on monday.
I do recall a lot of people posting in this thread questioning his abiltity to play the position & a lot could not believe the coach picked him.
A slice of humble pie anyone.

Anyway i was a critic of his signing at the start of the season & have had a couple of slices of humble pie  & i would'nt mind him staying on for another season. In saying that if he was to go i would'nt be concerned as we have ample cover in the backs

Actuallu in some ways picking him in the centres makes more sense - closer to the action to take a hit up or two and less chance of having to take a high ball.

i think Brown and Utai are good fringe players in your squad, happy to have them run around with us again as back up, if another club wants them more and is prepared to pay a little more, I wont lose any sleep over them going. If the club thinks the young up and comers are ready to replace them, than so be it, i reckon that generation next is still a year or so away.
Utai has had a decent year, he is very good at what he does (truck the ball out of our own half), he has certainly gone alot better than I expected

Re-sign him for sure, if the price isn't too high. He's a handy player. Have him do a little work in the hooker and backrow positions in the off season to up his utility value, would offer terrific impact of the bench if he can't crack a full strength backline.
