Mayer on MMM

Mayers comment that the leaks have 20% of the info is interesting. Makes me wonder if the talk about Jason Taylor and Trent Barrett is based on assistant roles and not head coach role.

Before everyone says what would be in it for them, the upside could easily be the head coach role for 2015.

I can't see a new head coach at Penrith or Roosters for some years.

That actually made me think about smoking gun lol

We are not in the position to be picky & choosey. In order to get this club back on its feet we need to make some tough decisions they may not please everyone. I'm happy with 3 or 2 games what evers best for the club!

I'd love to see Mayers KPO's…

Humpty gave us nothing and always received criticism with everything and anything he did.

Surprisingly, this new bloke is doing the complete opposite and from day one, sort out the fan-base for questions & opinions.

I think a few on here are starting to have a man-crush on the bloke...

In his interview on Sports Sunday this morning, Mayer came out & supported Potter as our coach for next year but when pressed on the matter admitted that it was solely the boards decision whether he was sacked or not. Dean Ritchie was part of the interview this morning on SS, so I expect to see another article on this saga in tomorrows johnny raper. So glad we now have Mayer as our CEO instead of that clown Humpty

Love to have JT in the ranks, he is behind the success behind the roosters besides them being over the cap!!!! but Potter must get a fair go to prove himself. If we are in the same position as this year and haven't improved then things may be looked at. It will still take at least 2 more years before the top 8 in my opinion.
Players also need to be accountable cant keep passing the buck!

This guy really speaks well. I like him and Potter but I will give them time before judging them. Sheens was great for a number of years.

I get the feeling Potter is very lucky their is so much negative press directed at the board.I think they must know that they are the ones under the pump rather than Potter.

Like Mayer the board has to come out and back Potter to the hilt and put processes in place that at least gives him some chance of success. Iam still not convinced he has the playing roster to avoid the chop in 2014 but I hope he has a brilliant year

Mayer is doing well so far in his role at WT. time will tell how he can turn the club around…

Robbie Farah is staying and coach Michael Potter is a maybe, while the fans will make up their own minds about Benji Marshall's conduct.

Welcome to another few days in the Wests Tigers soap opera.

Tigers chief executive Grant Mayer took to Sydney radio on Sunday in a bid to dispel some of the myths engulfing the club - the latest being revelations that skipper Farah's new four-year contract had yet to be signed.

The news came in the same week serious doubts were cast over the future of Potter, and on the same day Marshall angered some sections of the Tigers faithful and management by posing in an Auckland Blues jumper and announcing a two-year deal with the Super Rugby franchise.

Mayer admitted the Tigers may have jumped the gun in announcing Farah's re-signing in March, but said he expected the deal to be completed this week.

"Ultimately Robbie's going to be there," Mayer told Triple M.

"The paperwork is the issue. It is a very big contract for both of us.

"Wests Tigers fans relax, it will be done this week."

Evoking memories of the likes of Craig Wing and Anthony Mundine in parading in new colours while still contracted to another club, the feel-good factor of Marshall's farewell tour suffered a major blow.

Fans took to social media on the weekend, many voicing their displeasure at Marshall's conduct, claiming it was an insult to the NRL that he was promoting a rival code while still contracted to the Tigers.

He is due to play his 200th NRL game in the penultimate round of the NRL season, but there are now suggestions he could be dumped next weekend.

Mayer said the club had yet to discuss any possible sanction for Marshall's video presentation in his new colours.

"It's probably too early to talk about that one but I guess it's fair to say we are quietly surprised about how it all played out," Mayer said.

"I guess the greatest judge on Benji right now are the fans themselves and we've seen a bit of that this morning.

"It's certainly an unusual way to do it."

The future of Potter is expected to be determined in an August 28 board meeting.

Mayer refused to guarantee Potter would see out the second year of his two-year deal, but claimed the review of the club's coaching set-up was about structure and not individuals.

"Mick's got a contract with the club to the end of next year and we've been out in the public saying we're doing a structural review and I think the two purposes have been mixed," Mayer said.

"Mick's part of that review - we're trying to strengthen our team next year.

"I think the whole thing's been a bit confused."

Thanks Ink…

I like this Mayer, even questions he wants to pass on, he doesnt stonewall, he takes the time to explain some of the intricacies of the issue, so as to put to rest fears as to why he cannot speak up at the specific moment. He is an all around brilliant communicator.

Agree with these comments. And cheers for the link Ink

.

I would say mid 2014 if the Tiges have a bad start to the season,my mail as i posted a week or 2 back,is they had an "experienced" coach in mind to help/replace Potter and keep the current sponsors happy and have some chance of attracting new money.

Grant is so positive and full of energy a breathe of fresh air much needed at the tigers. He will lead us out of this mess created by Humphrey and sheens

Seemed to be genuine. Was very impressive I thought. Put a different perspective forward. Calmed me.
