Mbye

Been saying it all year. Talk about a player with no identity. Has no specialist position yet finds himself the captain and the clubs only Origin player. Absolutely bizarre

He has been so good defensively and a few games ago had his best game in a tigers jersey. Tonight was woeful. He single handedly cost us that game. Rushed out everytime the ball came his way and it resulted in tries everytime. Why????????????????????

I think he overcompensated in trying to protect Hoffman who was on debut and not in a favoured position. MBye is a reasonable defender, he reads the play well and tends to make effective one on one tackles. Last night he tried to do what Tonie Carroll Did for Lockyer. Carroll was an outstanding defender who was genuinely feared - Mbye not so much

Can’t believe he’s on $950K

Mind blowing

I can believe that, quite sure that's an Ivan signing. I'm just trying to forget it.

It's no wonder Cleary wanted out @rah53 as he knew he would be on a beating to nothing trying to coach the mob he collected....what a gutless nasty piece of work he was.... and still is.

Reynolds has been a particularly poor buy. Time to bring in Madden to begin his apprenticeship.

Very disappointing by our Captain tonight but the the defining moment for me was how he constantly left his winger exposed and lacked urgency in defence. Agree with most of the posts here tonight. If he is the best we have then god help us. Madge is on the right track but we supporters will continue to hurt until he offloads a few poor signings (including Mybe).

This is what it comes down to. We’re STILL hamstrung by some really bad signings wasting our cap. They're the gift that keeps giving.. Mbye is probably the worst of those at the moment, taking up the largest percentage, and is a shoo in to start every game because he’s our captain. If Madge is serious about accountability though he should be dropped as soon as possible.

I can’t wait for these guys to get off our books and for us to then beat the smug look off Cleary’s face for these years of crap. It only shows what a terrible decision maker and coach he really is anyway.

I still don’t get the purpose he serves as a player. He’s just....there. He”s not a strike centre. He’s there cos Madge has no other position for him. He’s the most confusing player i’ve ever come across. He’s a captain, playing out of position because there are better options in his preferred positions. There’s constant talk the club could be looking to offload him, yet he’s the only player in the club whose an incumbent Origin player. This isn’t meant to be a thread to bash him, I like him, he belongs somewhere, but where?

He belongs ‘Left Right Out’

Staggering isn't it. Like i said weeks ago before being shot down by a couple of posters, your top paid players are supposed to be match winners. Our roster is out of balance.

I just hope Penrith never make a GF or win one whilst Ivans poor signings are on our books. I want to beat Ivan to a pulp with a team built by a competent coach and one that sticks out their signings.

Mbye is on crazy money and that’s why so many people hate on him. If he was on 400k a season he would get so much less flack every week but good old Ivan have to give him crazy money.

He’s on way too much money and played awful last night but he’s a good player overall. Usually he’s very good defensively.

I really don't need to add to all the negativity but, like others, I need to get it off my chest. Mbye was worse than useless tonight. Worse because if he wasn't there we wouldn't have leaked so many points. The most frustrating aspects of his performance were that he didn't appear to either try hard or care. He looked disinterested. And no one's mentioned his totally ineffective hit ups from our end. Smashed and forced back every time. Why would you even direct him to take those runs - it made it even harder for the next runner. And the captaincy? Does anyone ever see him talking animatedly to the team behind the posts? As I said, the worst aspect was his apparent disinterest. You can't have a disinterested player, let alone captain. Finally, what a poor example and liability for the debutante. The young fella did well, given the lack of support or leadership inside him.

What about the captain's challenge last night? I know it wasn't successful, but Mbye showed no interest in challenging it, it took all of his teammates begging him to before he actually questioned it.

Was that his first challenge this season??

That was an astute observation. Yet more evidence that he's not interested.

i cant believe we are paying this bloke $950k a season. he does absolutely nothing
for us. and he is the captain.

(a) Do we know for a fact that he's on $950 this year; and
(b) Do you take into account the substantial discount we got for his first season(s) when Doggies were paying freight.

E.g. if I was paying Luke Brooks $0 in his first year and $1.0M in his second year, Luke Brooks certainly is not a million-dollar footballer, but you only paid him $500K on average across the contract.

Funny I didn't think Mbye was all that bad. Honestly, very many players down on expectations last night, including much of the forward pack and esp. Luke Brooks.

Handling was atrocious, that was the issue. And we totally lost our defensive line speed after 25 minutes.

I don’t care what he’s earning , we were dumb enough to offer whatever it is - he needs a heart transplant. I don’t think there’s anyone else in the comp that is more disinterested and gives nothing in attack.
I can’t see why Benji was dropped ahead of this lifeless waste of space.
Has anyone ever seen Mbye with a facial cut? He looks after himself too well to draw blood.
