McIllwrick vs Ballin

It has to be one or the other cant carry them both against the Raiders Not overly fussed by either, however unlike some Ballins passing game in my opinon is not enough to get him a spot. He has played about forty minutes of footy in almost two years at thirty three - it does my head in that he is even being considered.

Its ok to 'think' we cant afford to carry 2 DH against Canberra, but realistically McIIilwrick wont last 80min.

We need to attack Canberra and having an ineffective DH is not the answer.

The thing that a lot of people don't understand is your football smarts put you in the right position on the footy field or help you take the high percentage option

Ballin has that , that is unquestionable

He doesn't rely on his running game , so even if he has lost a bit of zip it isn't a huge concern

He will play tough , he will play smart and take the right option

What more do you want ??

And when we want to change the pace of the game you bring Liddle on , quickest guy at the club over 40 metres and will be learning oodles from Ballin every time they are in the same room

Again I just scratch my head when I read some people's comment on here , do your guide dogs tell you what's happening on the footy field ??

Ballin's 30min on the week end..was OK as it could be at 12-52…

Still would be a fair way off NRL at this stage...

McIlwrick/Littlejohn have been doing a good job..having a utility on the Bench is not the problem..Carrying a bloke who can't play 10mins is...

I like Ballin, but lets be honest….
Management signed Ballin because they thought Farah would be gone before the 2016 season started.
Ballin basically has played no real NRL football since the middle of the 2015 season.
At his age getting back to where he was say 3 years ago is going to be very very tough.

Mark my words.....he will not be offered a contract extension....unless McIllwick and Liddle get hit by a bus.

Please spare us the garbage. Do you actually believe what you write? He has played 40 minutes give or take a few in two seasons. Yes he is a good bloke but he was signed to play football. His signing has been a disaster and whatever money has been spent on him has been wasted.

We will see , I'll keep this comment in mind so I can shove it back down your throat in a few months time

I couldn't care if he is a good bloke or a DH to be honest , the valuable insight alone he will be providing to Liddle will be invaluable to Liddle's learning curve

You watch the mentality and the mental toughness of this side change when Ballin starts , many will be shocked , trust me

We have few true consummate professionals at this club , much like Beau Scott has done at Parra , he will do here

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Why is he our problem? I understood Matty B took up very little of our cap. Didn't Manly contribute to his salary to get him of their books?

We are paying all of it this year and he didnt come cheap

Meh. I'll wait until the end of the year to judge whether it is a disaster. If he's a regular this year guiding Liddle along, I'll be satisfied.

Geez Happy five years ago I might agree with you but as mentally tough as he might be he still has to physically compete and I cant recall many 33 year olds who have comeback after nearly two years of no footy two knee recos and been selected in any FG team
Really dont know when or how some WTs supporters became so enamoured with Matt Ballin cause from where I sit Manly got all there was to give so far.
I will be interested to see if you are right.

Not sure why you think we're paying all of it this year when he was contracted to Manly for 2016 and 2017\. I don't know the terms of the release but ordinarily the team that releases a player ends up paying some portion on all remaining years of a contract (when it is the club forcing the player out).

Maybe from the Official Signing announcement…

Ballin today signed a two-year contract with Wests Tigers after being granted an early release from Manly-Warringah, where he was contracted until the end of 2016.

Ballin only had an option for 2017 with Manly..

That's not what Manly's official announcement said of the extension at the time - http://www.go1.seaeagles.com.au/news/2015/04/02/matt_ballin_extends_.html
