There is something strange with our system, somehow we manage to keep players that have minimum capabilities (e.g. Jordan, Lulia, Buchanan etc.) and they stay with us like forever, while we cannot keep better players e.g. Koroibete, Martin, Papenhousen, N Brown, and now Aloiai and McIntyre.
There was a period with Sheens when the system worked much better, and we continuously acquired better players.

Lets face it. A decent club with management that actually knows how to run a football club would've found a way of getting rid of Reynolds, Packer and Mbye a long time ago. But no, we are held hostage by these contracts and will probably sign up similar contracts again in the meantime. Hopefully someone in this club that has the power to make this club change, actually does it. I've just about had enough.

No other club would have got rid of those contracts, Reynold and Packer in particular. The real issue is other clubs, outside of the Bulldogs and Dragons, wouldn't have put themselves in the position to have to get rid of those contracts in the first place.

Souths would've got rid of them.

That’s not true . They’ve been trying to offload Gagai for 2 years and he’s on similar coin . Who’ve they offloaded recently that wasn’t a guy with some serious mental health issues ?

LOL ! Geez we know how to make a mountain out of a mole hill . Was he solid ? Yep ! Am I dissappointed we lost him ? Yep , but can we relax with this type of stuff . If he’s still in first grade in 5 years I’ll be surprised .

Spot on

AD wasn't a bad player on a bad contract, they just signed an upgrade so it was easy to find him a new home.

The problem is we lost a guy who played 12 games for us, we could’ve signed him for minimum coin and our management bungled it. If they couldn’t get that deal over the line, what hope should we have of them actually landing an elite player

The boys called him Madges love child and McIntyre was happy playing under Madge. The info I heard was Hartigan wasn't really a fan so maybe they've got somebody else on the hook ?‍♂️
I just don't understand why Maguire wasn't all over this, it's not like he was distracted with finals footy ?‍♂️

Is it really Madge’s job to deal with the contract paperwork?

Definitely not but it's his team and the salary cap is Hartigans responsibility.
All clubs have recruitment meetings and the coach has a big say on who he wants

This is very disappointing from the CEO/Coach/GM not being able to retain a player like Mcintyre whilst there is speculation around Mansour/Roberts.

He proved last season he deserved a revised contract yet we don't have the cap to pay extra's bit we can chase JAC on big coin and come up with nothing.

What example does this show to the younger players coming through our systems and some of the ones that have been elevated to 1st grade now, we talk about developing a club culture but we do the opposite.

Starting to really get disillusioned with this club the way it is being managed from the top - lets embark on a campaign to get rid of the CEO if the board won't???

Agree 1000% . Great post.

Disagree 10,000% - Let's destabilise the club, that should be good for a media backlash and entice players to come here.

Look he’s not a huge loss, solid player the big question is will his money (which wasn’t much) be used well and will we replace him

We need another second rower at the club otherwise one injury and it’s literally Chee Kam on the bench and that’s not good enough

It's not great to lose him but he is definitely not a player that you get into a bidding war over. It is impossible to be critical when you do not know how much the Titans are paying him.

I dare say they’re paying a decent amount more than we are. Would he surprised if he even plays if their whole team if injury free there.

What’s important now is who we sign in his spot. We need a second rower pretty bad

The hard part is there is not a lot around, losing him hurts, but paying him $250k+ would hurt us more

I believe I read on here somewhere that he was on about 150k and we were baulking at increasing that at all.

Ridiculous if true and no wonder he packed his bags (good for him, bad for us).

I would be reluctant to go to $200k for him so it would depend on what the Titans offered, he really only has 3 months of quality football under his belt.

Congratulations to Sam McIntyre securing his future with the Titans ,know doubt we will hear this young mans name in the near future when making his state of origin debut.

Great signing for Gold Coast a team on the way up.

Sam may not see first grade this year. Especially if Titans are going well.

He is a third stringer in the Titans pack. The bottom of the dregs. An injury fill.

Realistically he isn’t thinking about his career with this move and will see a lot of Qld cup.

Too be honest reading through these post I have probably gone a bit light in my response. We definitely should have had this under control and signed him up when he agreed to terms. That is a mistake we shouldn't have made, unless we have a replacement lined up.

The Pom said Madge was shocked by McIntyre’s exit, so I’m tipping there was no replacement lined up.

I find it strange that Madge would be shocked at his exit!! I thought good coaches in good relationship with their players , would have his finger on the pulse and know what’s going on with his players ..especially in relation to retention. This is laughable.!
