McQueen to Tigers - RLW Mole

McQueen is a decent player, but he just doesn't strike me as the sort of backrower we need right now and I'm definitely worried about it becoming a high salary, low reward type signing. McQueen excels behind a pack that dominates week in week out and we simply don't have that. He's also been coming off the bench and been pretty patchy. A few years ago he could barely keep in grade footy and was playing on the wing. He had a breakout season and was quieter this year which is my concern. Is he on the downfall? He also isn't a workaholic or dominating type backrower. A good edge runner he is though. I'd be more inclined to try and get Kirisome Aauv'a.

I'd be moving mountains to get Trent Merrin. He could change our club. Literally, the perfect signing. Big, mobile, excellent motor, great offload.

Highly underrated player , if that is what the club is lining up to replace Thompson I could live with that

A much better upgrade than Thompson. I would be happy with this signing. He has developed into a good hard edge backrower, a current QLD origin player….what more do you want.

Not good enough for mine - Rather have Marty as a back rower or Santi.

I think they are both better than McQueen - he would not be worth half the money he would want.

I don't know about McQueen. I feel like he had a really good patch of footy, but then fell away. He's a great athlete though, as long as we don't pay overs I'd be happy with the signing - being a QLD rep though, I'd imagine we would be paying a bit.

We should be going all out for Auva’a IMO.

I agree…McQueen has an "Andrew Fifita" like year in 2013, but feel away sharply in 2014...if we get him I hope its not on his full contract,,,but for once where the other team(Souths) pay the majority of his current contract...

Neither are Ryan Hoffman, beau Scott or sam Thaiday- they don't have high tackle counts or high metres, but they're solid, run good lines and save tries imo

I've been hearing this for a while now, maybe that's why we didn't re-sign Thompson and reneged on the Takairangi deal to sign this guy, I know rabbitohs re-signed him this year but maybe they want to keep there halves more than a 2nd rower, and hopefully they will be paying half of his contract, if we did sign him he would be a good pick up

Out of interest , did Mcqueen go over to the States with the Bunnies Squad ? If he did ? doesn't mean that it can't happen (getting him signed with us ).

ok he is a fair player but for mine at souths he does not play a lot he would play 55 maybe 60 never plays the full game at least Thompson could play 80 .I wouldn't be paying overs for him . why are souths letting him go he just got a new contract.

I'd wait to hear an announcement before asking. An announcement i wouldn't really be holding my breath for.

Would definitely be a good pick up if Souths are paying half of his contact, not so much if they aren't.

With a premiership win comes increased salary requests and possibly bonus clauses for some players. It wouldn't be unusual to see some players let go early, McQueen did sign a healthy deal earlier this year so it makes sense he could be on the look out.

Its all whispers and 2nd hand info at this stage. For all we know Mole just trawled this forum and seen the thread on McQueen so put 2 and 2 together.
