Meeting Tonight to debate future of Balmain Leagues Club

Newtown

Well-known member
A meeting debating the future of Balmain Leagues Club will be held by Leichhardt council at 6.30pm tonight 28/4/15\. This meeting is open to the general public.

I hope the debate goes well,as long as sanity prevails and it has positive outcomes for the Balmain Tigers…after all Liechardt council has stuffed them around a fair bit...

Have faith.

And if things go the wrong way, I'll be calling for Mayers head on a guillotine.

I'm not GM's biggest fan , but how you can blame him ??

You have Benny , Leichhardt Council and the people that originally put this deal together to blame

This all happened a long time ago , far before GM showing up

If the deal Darcy Byrne publicised is to be believed, ie:
- 5 years
- No cost
- All revenue from merchandise, tickets, broadcasting, match sponsors and advertising/signage.

Then there is really no way the club can excuse turning it down.

I would also assume the Leichhardt membership is one of the top sellers for the club.
Our membership numbers are already embarrassingly low, they would be even lower if we stopped playing at Leichhardt.

Mate I'm not doubting you , but I thought we still needed to pay for the maintenance of the ground in that deal ??

That could be the biggest cost of all

If you can find Darcy Byrne on facebook he has basically said all of that will cost $70k in outgoings per game (including staff/security etc) and he estimates $200k in revenue.

Darcy Byrne also states he wanted to release the whole document on the Leichhardt Oval deal to the public but Wests Tigers wouldn't allow him.

And what , it couldn't accidently get leaked to the press ….........C'mon Sabre you a smarter bloke than that

Leichhardt Council sounds like it is more concerned about coming out smelling like roses

They thought the WT's would never leave and are pooing themselves at that very thought

They don't want to get stuck with a lead balloon that would cost tens of millions to get to acceptable state for anyone else to use

Im sure if it was to get 'leaked' it would be fairly obvious where it came from.

I don't profess to knowing all the facts, all I know is there aren't many people I trust less than Grant Mayer. That and on the surface what has been proposed to WT seems like a decent enough deal.

Given how many sides there are in this supporter base, Mayer is always going to be disliked by somebody. He can't please everybody.

Nor should they… Non-Disclosure is a basic requirement in any contract negotiation in private enterprise.

Darcy sounds like he is pulling at heart strings, while planning the sale of this iconic parklands!

Its awfully nice of some pelican councillour to let us keep the profits from our merchandise. How can we refuse.

Should still walk. I love LO but these same dicks have done nothing but cockblock the Leagues club development and screw Balmain/Wests every step of the way.

Now Mayer and the board are looking to tell them to punch it up their date and walk they're pissing themselves they'll get stuck with an out of date stadium with no main tenant/attraction to bring people in.

GAGF I say.
