MELBOURNE RESPOND TO MCKINNON MEDIA STORM

The media exploiting a mans life changing injury to use as hype for an Origin decider? Well i never.

I'm with UD, i hope he makes a recovery, but if anyone has a right to feel bitter about the way he's been treated its Dwyer. The NRL has bent over backwards helping McKinnon, and quite rightly, but don't let the media treat you like a puppet for their own gain.

It's one thing to dispute penalties, but the moment it was known that he couldn't move( which was known almost immediate ly. Smith should've walked away and shut up, there's no way that he didn't know that it was at least a serious injury.

This is going to sound horrible - however it screams to me that Alex McKinnon is desperately trying to remain relevant. You don't see Simon Dwyer and Taniela Tuiaki pulling stunts like this.

Alex has his future secured. We know what happened. He may well walk again if he keeps to he rehabilitation. The constant re-visit of this unfortunate situation by the man himself is now starting to wear thin.

Remember, this is the same Alex McKinnon who effectively cornered his girlfriend in a public position when he proposed to her, ensuring that she really couldn't say no.

I'm done rising for Alex, sorry.

U D , what the hell has it got to do with you or any of us how he proposed to his girlfriend ????

As for Smith. …well he is just a low piece of shit. Lifting penalties are a dime a dozen....He knew it was serious. ...everyone knew it was serious without knowing the full extent.
Minimization of the situation to his team his sole aim.
Smith is a heartless grub who brings shame to the kangaroo jersey...The biggest cheat and con man the game has known.

Every captain would try to play the incident down at the time it happened… He was only trying to not get a penalty against his team and keep his player on the park.

Would've happened 10 times this weekend.

How dare he try and play down the situation without actually knowing the seriousness of the situation to a Ref , Alex was actually telling Beau Scott who was 1st at his aid telling Beau " i can't breathe" you could hear it clearly.
It was already half time…..what could of cost Cam Smith and his team a penalty and 2 points with a kick at goal, but Cam Smith still wants to argue the point to the Ref that Alex put his head down and forced it upon himself and his not able to recognize that it was an illegal tackle that went wrong .
It wasn't intentional to hurt Alex but you have to pay for your accidents.

How long has it been ? and Cam Smith can't reach out to Alex even with a text and say " wishing you all the best.....thinking of you in your recovery " seriously is that real hard ?

It's a Hatchet Job… Social media is exploding with negative comments against Ch9 & 60 Minutes. They ruined a great story.

As for Alex, keep fighting kid!

It already been stated that Smith did in fact try and get in touch with McKinnon but was rebuffed. Smith also launched the rise for Alex round last yr. I'd have thought people might wait to hear Smith's side before buying into such one sided reporting.

I'm with ud on this one.

Not too sure about the gf thing.

I'm still not sure about Smith- honestly, most other captains wouldve done the same thing imo.

You got to be kidding me??
You seem to oppose any topic over and over and even with this topic you seem to fight for the minority again???
ONE YEAR LATER and not a personal phone call to say Hi hope your ok from the Australian Captain???
I mostly disagree with what you say but this time your arrogance is to much…..

Getting personal as usual when someone has a different opinion to you i see.

As i said, there's been no contact because nones been allowed.

And if you bothered to take a glance at social media, you'll see that i'm not in the minority. Its actually closer to 50/50

I dont look at social media as it is a delusion of reality.
Caneron Smith is the captain of Australian Football if he was a gentleman and a real leader he would have gone out of his way to organise a message or call to Alex.
Nothing big but a sign of being a noble leader.
Have people just become self obsessed and lost respect for being'???

I'd have to disagree with you their Watto , most captains would have kept their comments to a minimum and just copped the penalty .. But not Smith !!

After seeing none of his team were to be sent off i would think thats the time to shut up and stop debating the severity of the tackle with the ref. That was smiths cue to stfu and thank his lucky stars.

However i do feel the story was a bit blown out regarding cam smith. 60 minutes took a few of alex mckinnons reactions from watching the video back (for the first time according to 60 mins) during smiths words with the ref about the tackle and made it bigger than it needs to be.
The show billed it as the power of love over coming severe adversity, but it turned into a story of tragedy with a bad guy villain.
In my opinion not needed and the cynic in me says it was yet another way to hype up origin.

Oh stop getting personal, and grow up.

I'm not being personal about it - Cameron Smith was doing what any captain would do in the situation - and he wasn't wrong in doing it mind you.

If it was Robbie Farah we'd be up in arms here. But because Cameron Smith is not exactly well received in Tigertown/NSWTown it's an easy target.

Did you Forget the fact that Cameron Smith lead the "Rise for Alex" Advertising campaign? Grub or not on the field, he didn't have to back that.

Forget the fact that as stated the Melbourne storm independently raised Money for Alex's cause.

The timing right before origin is also interesting too…. and despite my current location, I do go for New South Wales.

Horrible Accident? Yes.
Brave young man for overcoming odds? Yes.
Constant re-visiting of the event nearly 18 months after it happened by channel nine and Alex? No thanks.

Shut the hell up Ink. How would you know what Smith knew with regards to the injury? You have no idea. What an embarrassing comment.

You have to be kidding me Tigerspirit?? Please don't let fact ruin this story.

Have to say I'm pretty disappointed by 60 Minutes. It wouldn't have been too difficult to get Cameron Smith's side of the story but that wouldn't have given them the ammunition to show how upset the McKinnon's were.

I'm no fan of the Storm nor Smith but I thought that was a low act by 60 Munutes. You expect rubbish like that from ACA but I thought 60 Minutes was supposed to be a legit current affairs show.

And yes I was thinking about Simon Dwyer watching that. Hope people still remember and look after him as well in years to come.

I'm hoping the Mrs taped this

I don't know if Smith was given the right of reply by Channel 9 or 60 minutes , but if he hasn't or wasn't its a bit low on their behalf

I remember watching the game on tv and at the time was pretty shocked at how Smith was carrying on about being penalised. The McKinnons are dead right in their outrage. Alex immeadiately knew he was in trouble. Everyone on the field knew. He couldn't move or breath properly, he said "everything felt cold and silent." Wayne Bennett himself said he could tell from up in the box that this was a real problem. The guy gets carried off after ten minutes of motionlessness and is being cared for by a whole host of medicos and trainers and Smith decides he wants to protest a fricken penalty? Really? And then he doesn't make effort enough to make contact. I clearly remember it was Jonathan Thurston that came up with the Rise for Alex round not Cameron Smith. JT was interviewed by Ikin and Kent regarding that on NRL 360\. Smith is a lowlife. End of story. Oh, and if Farah acted in the same manner, then I'd be just as disgusted. What an appalling way to behave.
