As much as we’re relishing playing them depleted, they would be breathing a sigh of relief that they drew us

Any other team, yes, but we are a bit of a bogey side for them. God knows why.
Not saying we will win, just wishing.

Are we? Last time we played them they put nearly 70 on us. I can’t remember the last time we beat them.

Year before we got smoked by 40 by them aswell, no way we are a bogey team for them

We have an above average record against Storm, we win about 35% against them, there are about 5 clubs above us. The Bulldogs have the best record of current clubs at 49%. Balmain has the best record at 50%, and Magpies unfortunately have a 0% record

There you go. I knew it wasn’t us.

Strictly looking at the 2 squads - Bellamy plays us on the edges where their outside backs and secondrowers outpace, outlast and outclass us. Edge D will be our biggest hurdle.
On the mental side of the game it’s tough to call where they’re at. Certainly cracks have been appearing in what has been an unbreakable fortress for many years and things aren’t quite what they used to be with the Storm. Their last outing was an embarrassment for them. As for us, i get the feeling we’ll be a work in progress this season and could take a while to find some cohesion.

Haven't the Storm won first round in something like around a thousand years? I can't see a win first up. Our draw this season is a beauty though all things considered.

16 years in a row Storm have won their first game of the season.

Think parra broke that last year

Not 100% sure if I am correct but Storm have not lost a round one game since Bellyache has been in charge which is since 2003 from memory.

Having said that I believe they had a round one bye in one of those years which spoils the record a little, but still pretty incredible by any standard.

The streak that the Slimy Eels broke was by beating the Storm after they had won 19 on the trot last year to surpass the Riff's 17 in a row the previous year.

The 19 wins in a row meant that they equaled a record previously held by the Roorters.

We have done well in the past by ruining Slater's 300th and Bellyache's 400th in 2018, here's hoping we can end their impressive round one winning record and then go on to win 20 in a row or better still a season undefeated, wishful thinking, I know.

Correct. They beat Souths round 1 last year

Wests Tigers outside back Asu Kepaoa has suffered a major setback in his return from an ACL injury, tearing his pectoral muscle at training this week.

The 21-year-old, who had been training in the centres over the preseason and was firming to start round one after impressing in his transition from the wing, is now expected to miss up to the first 12 rounds of the year.

Wests Tigers vs Melbourne Storm at CommBank Stadium, 7.35pm

Predicted Tigers team
:

1. Daine Laurie
2. David Nofoaluma
3. Starfird To'a
4. Oliver Gildard
5. Ken Maumalo
6. Jackson Hastings
7. Luke Brooks
8. Stefano Utoikamanu
9. Jacob Liddle
10. James Tamou
11. Luke Garner
12. Luciano Leilua
13. Tyrone Peachey
14. Alex Twal
15. Thomas Mikaele
16. Joe Ofahengaue
17. Alex Seyfarth

I've made a couple of changes to that of foxsports.

If there is a chance to beat the Storm it's in Round1.
So many stars either suspended or signed elswhere.
IMO Jackson Hastings will show young Johns a thing or two.
In the forwards, the two changes I would anticipate is a Garner swap with Tuilagi and
Musgrove for Mikaele. The last trial will determine the final line up.
I can't think of any bolters, can you guys?

1-14 I think is accurate if all are fit just don’t know about the rest, Liddle can’t play a full 80 so someone has to cover him if Simpkin isn’t on the bench Peachy probably covers him which probably shifts Twal or Joe O to Lock honestly not sure if Joe O is a better prop or backrower but given he can cover different positions I think he’ll be there just don’t know who the final 2 spots will go to as you said the final trial will probably help sort out the remaining spots

Some talk Papz won't be fit for round 1.

Surely if so we are at least a chance of winning 😂
Well it certainly helps us if he’s not able to play, there’s no Munster, Smith, Grant, Kamikamica stood down and possibly Paps out will help but Round 1 is still a few weeks away so wouldn’t rule it out just yet

It doesnt matter who Storm put on the field for mine...I will wait until I see the next trial and how the main contenders for our top 17 fair...
I still think Hastings will make a difference in the backs and Im not writing JTJ off just yet to play a lot better than last year...dont forget guys there is some young talent and unseen potential still in the squad,Peachey did well in the first trial and if he and JTJ claim some of their better form back and with Jacko in the mix anything could happen...
Patients guys and dont get to emotionally involved just yet,we know how we get disappointed just when we think we are a chance of a top 8 finish every year...

No Kelma?

Looks likely otherwise.
