Membership and Crowd Numbers

I noticed on the Wests Tigers twitter account that 45,000 people tuned in to the live stream of the trial last night.

If so, then how come we struggle to crack 10,000 members and draw at least 25,000+ crowds on a consistent basis ?

We obviously have the fanbase. Our brain trust really need fo figure out an effective strategy to engage them. We could be a massive brand if they could figure it out.

Because it would require people to leave the comfort of their couches
No lineups for toilets and beer.

We were in the top 2 or 3 clubs in Sydney for crowds from 2005-2012 a those same crap venues for 5 years when we were winning…

Just saying..

And who were the teams ahead of us? Where did they play out of?

I'd like to know the numbers before benji left the club ?

Despite how bad he played for us in the last years the kids loved him … Just saying !

I'm a bit skeptical of that 45,000 number, I find it hard to believe that that many people tuned in for a trial.

But anyway, I would love to know the answers to your questions too. It seems like we have a lot of casual fans. For example, we have lots of followers on social media, and when we're doing well our support increases immensely (you could say the same for every team, but I think it's particularly true for the tigers.) The trick is turning these casual fans into die hards that will buy memberships and go to games, even when times are tough

Benji is a huge factor imo…plus we do have a lot of fairweather fans that do only show when the going is good.....stats will show this

Hopefully Teddy Brooks and moses ...and I think Cherrington int time....can do a fraction for the club what benji did....but there'll never be another like him imo at our club

I stand by my view on this, the Westsigers has a fan base that has been from day one disenfranchised deliberately by the club. Until the club plays out of one ground under the one banner this will never change!
Hopefully the new management WILL make this decision and those of us that want to be apart of this great those that do not see you all later .I know for a fact many supporters will not go to some of our grounds and I am sure many here would also know supporters that do the same. The start of a unified Tigers is play out of one ground simple this is a major part of the problem.!

You hit the nail on the head and i'm sure there are fans that haven't moved on from the joint Venture coming together.
There is also the supporters in the Leichardt area that will not go to Campbelltown and the Campbelltown people will not go to Leichardt due to the Travel and inconvenience of it + Foxtel is a major issue of Crowds being low . By the time a Family 4 go to the Footy ? it will no doubt cost the Family at least $150.00 to $200.00 for the Day out , a major reason why people only show up when there side is winning .
They have made it so expensive these Days to go to the Footy that for so many Foxtel is the cheapest way around it , seems like the Smartest decision ?
I would be going to every game had i still had the opportunity.

That's the part that gets me - campbo people won't travel to Leichardt and viceversa when people like me and Happy would jump through hoops to get to game.

I went ti every game, home and away when I was a young fella but there were only 12 teams back then. I did however, live in Wollongong.

I am starting to agree that Wests Tigers need ti play out of just one ground. Now to pick the right one.

I'd be on that list as well CQ

Cambo people do travel to Leichhardt…

We have the biggest band of bandwagon supporters in the league...I have been a member and going to games for Years and post 2005 till 2009 crowds slumped come 2010/11 I saw people that hadn't been to games for years coming out of the woodwork....Why simple... A winning footy team will always attract crowd no matter where we play

Mark my words if the team is winning consistently you wont be able to fit them in at Cambo and Leichhardt...

Membership is a different story...there are a lot of economic reasons people don't by into memberships but again a winning football team will increase that base as well....

Put simply we are fickle...

damn straight, what did mayer say in that members meeting? cambo and leichardt currently have a capacity of around 17-18k because of safety issues.

those crowd records of 22k were likely tickets + memberships sold not people actually turning up. and he would know given he has access to ALL that data.

personally ive seen it at 16-18k last year and i honestly don't believe you could fit another 5-7 thousand more people in those grounds unless they're huddled in the queues, bathrooms and the carpark.

Crowd numbers were always going to struggle, firstly against the live showing of games on Pay TV and more recently also on channel nine. It still has some bearing on whether or not we attend, even though as members we have already paid for our match seats.

In my case it also took more than a decade before I finally became a member of the club that I was half forced to follow at the end of last century. Only went to half a dozen or so WT matches during that period, though would have gone to about the same number of Grand Finals and SOO matches.

.

So when we are crap no one wants to go there and when we are winning we choose to lock people out.
Makes the decision to play there ridiculous.

The Benji factor was way overrated… Tigers win crowds flick to watch them.. Just like they did in 2010-11
