Membership Renewal and Lui

I tried to renew my membership some months ago. I also tried to sign up and re-sign other family members.
For whatever reason it didn't go through (called WT Membership and they said it was a technical error).

Then the Lui story broke.

I am sorry to say, but until Lui is released from our club I will not be renewing my membership. I wasn't a big fan of his to begin with, but I came around at the back end of the season. Now there is only contempt.

I have been a die-hard since I was in the womb and don't know how the rest of you feel about it, but I can't support us if **[edited by Mods]** I can't cheer for him and I will feel sick if he plays for us next year. More than that, I will be disillusioned if he plays for any other NRL club - at least in the near future anyway.

I have been coming on these forums for quite a while and frankly, I am disappointed that there hasn't been a greater outcry in this respect.

For a club that supports pink day, promotes women in league etc, I find it absolutely disgusting that Lui hasn't been released. So do all the women in my family.

A long as he is associated with the club, none of my family will renew memberships.

Mate I agee,he has to go as simple as that, whether the NRL stop other clubs signing him shouldn't come in to it,he can't be here.

I agree I also posted something about this vermin but it was deleted seem he is a protected species ..

100% right Glenn B
The Tigers will do the right thing once everything has been played out in the courts

None of us like it but the club has to do the right thing by Rob Lui until he is found guilty or not guilty

Would you be happy if you were innocent and your employer threw you under a bus ??

I agree with bigsiro, for me it comes down to the principal of how we want women treated.
I had a membership this year & I would normally have renewed that by now.. but I don't want someone who allegedly hits a woman in my club.
I would say the same if Benji's assault charge was against a woman as well.
I cannot even imagine a situation where I could hit a woman.

Just my opinion.

The reason there hasn't been a bigger outcry Bigsiro is that most people believe in the presumption of innocence. The Tigers have done what responsible employers do and that is to wait for the court case to play out and allow Lui to defend himself. Only when the facts are known and judged on is when responsible organisations act and not recklessly which you seem to advocate.

Right on, Swannie.

great idea… lets start the Hold the club at ransom thing... you guys sound like a Union...

What a lot of rubbish judging the Club AND Lui without the facts and waiting for the Club's reaction. Thank goodness some of you are NOT in the business of judging people, because it would not be fair judging.

We really need a sarcasm tag or smiley on here - maybe a variation of this little fella - :unamused:

At what point do we stop turning a blind eye though? 2 years in a row, same circumstances.

In a court of law, you need to be sure, beyond reasonable doubt. As bad as it is with people getting off on technicalities, its the best way of doing things.

As a sport club, we don't have that burden. We don't have to wait for a guilty verdict before deciding his future, plenty of players have been sacked for less in our game. If he pulls on a jersey for us next year I will be disgusted.

We don't have to wait for a 3rd Mad Monday incident. At this point we would be perfectly within rights to sack him purely for getting drunk 2 Mad Mondays in a row and ending up with charges against him, this doesn't even take into account the actual reason for the charges.

Let the courts do their thing. But don't let the club hang its judgement purely on a guilty verdict.

So LaT, you would be more than happy to accept being sacked by your employer before you got the chance to defend yourself??

The court of public opinion isn't usually very accurate and responsible employers should never have their decisions ruled by it.

If the Tigers sacked Lui and the courts found him not guilty then what do you think Lui's legal team would advise him to do. As I said the Wests Tigers are acting responsibly through all this.

Lui can defend himself to Wests Tigers, there is nothing stopping him. If we are giving him time to concentrate on his court appearance then fine, but the club/fans shouldn't convince themselves that a guilty verdict is needed before a contract can be terminated.

Players have been fired for much less without the courts ever being involved.

The courts do need to go through due process, we just don't need to hang our decision on whatever they decide.

As for Lui suing if he is let go without being found guilty, good luck. Like I said, plenty of players find themselves let go for doing much less, and we don't see a flood of lawsuits as a result.

ok. this might stir a few people up but here goes. Rugby League clubs continually proclaim they are all family orientated which to a certain degree they really are. So i put it to you all, if someone in your family commits an act that is as bad as what Lui has been accused of what would you do about it ? Would you completely severe all ties ? Would you make sure they know what they have done is seriously messed up and they need help OR would you help them ?
mY point is i have been through alot of the things that Lui is probably going through atm . Let me be clear it is not right to harm anyone let alone your missus but i feel that the West Tigers should no matter what NOT SACK HIM. Why ? well this is what i would do if he doesnt go to jail.
Prevent him from playing football for a minimum of 12 months .
Put him through some extreme rehabilitation regarding domestic violence and alcohol abuse . Then decide if he should be able to compete with the worlds best in the NRL.
You see there are some many issues that this bloke may have and i feel the club has a responsibilty to help not only him but all of his family that this has affected. I hope he gets himself together he needs to forget about footy and concentrate on what really matters.

Lat Its not a good thing for a player to be seen suing the club he plays for

Future employers would be very wary especially when you have a history of violence like Robs seems to now have in employing him

Extreme rehabilitation sounds great pezza103, Robert still needs to be a responsible father and provider regardless of the outcome.

Problem is if we still employ him for 12 months he would still be taking part of our cap even if he doesn't lace up a boot.

The Club could apply for an exemption? Providing Robert doesnt play any form of RL within that 12 month period, and provided he attends an agreed upon rehabilitation system, the NRL would easily give the Tigers an exemption…
