Membership Renewal and Lui

ok. this might stir a few people up but here goes. Rugby League clubs continually proclaim they are all family orientated which to a certain degree they really are. So i put it to you all, if someone in your family commits an act that is as bad as what Lui has been accused of what would you do about it ? Would you completely severe all ties ? Would you make sure they know what they have done is seriously messed up and they need help OR would you help them ?
mY point is i have been through alot of the things that Lui is probably going through atm . Let me be clear it is not right to harm anyone let alone your missus but i feel that the West Tigers should no matter what NOT SACK HIM. Why ? well this is what i would do if he doesnt go to jail.
Prevent him from playing football for a minimum of 12 months .
Put him through some extreme rehabilitation regarding domestic violence and alcohol abuse . Then decide if he should be able to compete with the worlds best in the NRL.
You see there are some many issues that this bloke may have and i feel the club has a responsibilty to help not only him but all of his family that this has affected. I hope he gets himself together he needs to forget about footy and concentrate on what really matters.
FAMILY

If family meant anything to Lui, he wouldn't be in this predicament.

I tried to renew my membership some months ago. I also tried to sign up and re-sign other family members.
For whatever reason it didn't go through (called WT Membership and they said it was a technical error).

Then the Lui story broke.

I am sorry to say, but until Lui is released from our club I will not be renewing my membership. I wasn't a big fan of his to begin with, but I came around at the back end of the season. Now there is only contempt.

I have been a die-hard since I was in the womb and don't know how the rest of you feel about it, but I can't support us if **[edited by Mods]** I can't cheer for him and I will feel sick if he plays for us next year. More than that, I will be disillusioned if he plays for any other NRL club - at least in the near future anyway.

I have been coming on these forums for quite a while and frankly, I am disappointed that there hasn't been a greater outcry in this respect.

For a club that supports pink day, promotes women in league etc, I find it absolutely disgusting that Lui hasn't been released. So do all the women in my family.

A long as he is associated with the club, none of my family will renew memberships.

please mate if you want to take the moral high ground about supporting a footy club, i hope you are going to do the same with every other facet of your life.
every cab you get, every person you deal with when purchasing something, every interaction you have on the phone… make sure you know everything about their past history before you have anything to do with them..

One players actions shouldn't effect your decision on supporting this team.

I think a few are being a little harsh unless you actually know the OP… The OP may have had some circumstances close to his heart which have influenced his decision to take this stance. Further to that, the OP isnt stating he is going to stop supporting the Tigers because of one players actions, he is saying he will wait and see what actions/stance the Club takes in relation to the matter before making a decision to support the Tigers any further.

I hope the OP can find a way to continue his support for the Tigers one way or the other...

I do not agree with what Lui did, but I'm going to stand by him and hope he continues his football career @ the wests tigers.

these things happen in relationships, no one knows the bond Lui and his partner share. violence against women is unacceptable but I'm sure there is a lot of love between them.

get them some councilling & let them work things out between themselves.

he should be a tiger or nothing.
simple as that.
he f'd up… bottom line, so now they have to work out a conclusion thats best for all parties.

lui will be always known as the wife basher amongst fans of other clubs. this might stick with him for a while. if you are happy with this stigma associated with your club then so be it. We are a family club afterall. Who is bigger the fans of Wests Tigers or Robert Lui.

Im watching the Tigers Knights game again on replay….Dwyer is there ,Lui is there...however this topic is making it hard for me to enjoy watching this game again. I see Lui and my mind comes to this.

If Lui's found guilty it would be hard for me to support him, I think many many fans would be holding off on memberships like the OP.

What happens if this case continues into next season? We could have two players in our cap not on the park.

What happens if we sack him....we still need to pay him out, whens he contracted until?

Im watching this game earlier thinking what players could do that make me outright refuse to support them, what Luis accused of is right up there a few rungs from the top

Hopefully this matter is dealt with quickly though seeing as he's plead not guilty to one charge I think it may drag on into next season and as such Im afraid our members base may take a hit as a result.

Fair point, a lot of players do good things in the community, it would be unfair to judge them against someone who hasn't if that is proven to be the case.

Tod Carney might get all the bad press but he's only a party animal compared to Lui who beats up his wife, yet he gets hardly any bad press! Carney got dropped for drinking too much which is hardly as bad as Lui. He needs to go!!!!!!!!

For mine, the whole Lui situation is, on the outside, a disgusting repetition of the same time last year. However a legal process exists for a reason. To find the truth.
Fine, sack the guy for what appears to be completely unacceptable behavior and if, during the legal process, the charges are retracted again or found not to be proven then a large legal wrangle between the player and the club would undoubtedly be the outcome.
Just wait for the process to complete itself.

Maybe 12 months in the Super League would do the world of good for Lui. While It would mean time away from his young family, for the time being that may be for the best. It seemed to work wonders for Bird and for Liam Fulton (Fulton performance wise, not for discipline).
Perhaps we could work out a trade or a loan with another club and give him time to get his act together out of the fishbowl in Sydney. Whether or not his commitments in court would allow this I am not sure.
It just seems like the best solution as;
1\. He isn't in the Tigers jersey, which is a major concern for most fans.
2\. He isn't playing against the Tigers.
3\. He isn't tossed on the NRL scrapheap, by being given an opportunity to continue his career out of Sydney.

Mistakes? Yes, family members make mistakes. But violence against women goes further than most mistakes. Zero tolerance is the only acceptable view. Not passing it off as a "mistake".

As for Bird, two wrongs don;t make a right.

Get Lui out of our club NOW.

Ill find it hard to support him, it will make a difference to me. Ill support the club, but at times I wont be able to get past it.
People make mistakes sure, but this is one hell of a mistake, maybe I am being a little high and mighty, but that is he our I feel about it.
I can feel the blood boil even righting this email.

We are probably all guessing as to what will happen, Guilty good sack him, not guilty & this is probably the hard part pay him out & let him go & then his solicitors have no comeback for unfair dismissal.

Ending up in handcuffs 2 years in a row after becoming out of control on Mad Monday drinks is enough to warrant a sacking, and thats before taking into account what the arrests were for.

Can't see Lui having a case for unfair dismissal no matter which way it turns out.

Love the Tigers too much to stop supporting them because of one man's actions off the field.
I still want the club to thrive so renewed my membership.
I will leave the Lui issue to those who know what is going on.

Everyone has their own feelings on Lui and thats fair enough, but to get on your moral high horse and say you'll turn your back on the club if they don't make the choice on him that you think they should is a tad over-dramatic imo

My thoughts exactly, I have faith that the correct decision will be made on that issue and I'm looking forward to getting my 2012 membership when I have the funds available!!
