Memories

I know Carty well, he was my prop at St Marys before he went to grade. He was hard, but brusier definitely got the better of him. Plenty of players I know personally or played against in that Penrith side. Izzard was an arch enemy at work - he played for 8/12 and the Artillery Corps Team and I played for Gallipoli Engineers and The RAE Corps Team. Served in Malaysia with his brother a couple of years earlier.
Good stuff. I played with his brother Craig in National Army Rep team. He played a lot like Brad.

Those were the days, pity I can’t see any of the current Tigers pack showing any of that fire.
Not talking blues, just ripping in. Currently not in our DNA.
No team has any fear of playing us, perhaps less grabbing and more shoulder and leg drive into the tackle might change their minds.
Sit em on their bums, hard, make all teams fear playing the Tigers.
Warriors used to do it at Mt Smart, nobody like playing them coz what they lacked in skill they made up for in intensity. Tough, uncompromising D.
Hope Furner can Instill that in them next year.

I was at this game. It was unbelievable. Back in those days Wests took it right to the limit and often crossed over. Still good to watch although we'll never see the likes of it again and that's probably a good thing.

💯 for some reason we pile up those "i-don't-tackle-hard" big, slow pillow forwards (Twal, Woods, Sayfarth, Twal, Etinghousen etc.)!
And as soon we manage to get a player with a different style, the player gets injured (Dwyer, Ellis) or leaves (Fifita, N Brown, Taupau)😡, and it is never replaced with a similar forward!

We must have butted heads a few times. Craig and I played against and with each other a lot. He was a gunner and I was a sapper so 8/12 Gallipoli Lions games were frequent. He and Brad both played in the Arty Corps team as well.

We both went to Butterworth with B Coy 3 RAR, which was basically the 3 RAR rugby team. Craig and I were in the same section, and only had one job - to bring back the trophy. Successful mission: I was hooker and Captain, Craig was 5/8 and Vice.

Great tour! Great memories.
