Memories

Hey there Dennis . . . .. when those from the Wests side of things bring up stuff like this, they are told to grow up and get over it.
If you want to be selective, let me show you what selective can sound like:
The Magpies side of the merger has never been fairly represented. Fact.
In the general media, the team is mostly referred to as the Tigers. Fact.
And lets face the fact that if not for the WESTS Ashfield club generously paying Balmain's debts, Balmain would be bankrupt. WESTS generously gave them a bail out, and a voice on the board. For zero economic gain. Balmain could not meet their financial contractual obligations to the merger, remember ?
Why is it so hard for you Balmain supporters to properly respect and acknowledge what WESTS Ashfield so graciously did for your club ?

Personally Dennis, I've been happy with the merger since it still gave me a team to support.
Us older blokes have a lot more skin invested, and so are probably the ones that get narky about it. I've got a dozen WT jerseys, and only 2 Magpies jerseys.
But let's be fair here mate. It's a bit rank to pull out personal opinion of what might have happened 23 years ago, while conveniently forgetting to acknowledge that Wests Ashfield saved Balmain's back side a few years ago. They could insist that all junior teams be Wests Magpies branded, but they don't. It is their money, after all. You shouldn't resent a team playing as WESTS, because, you know . . . the bills.
I'm expecting the standard backlash from this post. But before you all go nuts, please look at the post that I'm directly replying to. Please look at the quotes that I'm directly replying to.
Just trying to even up the ledger.
Now you can go nuts . . . .
You need to both forget about it.

Balmain saved Magpies in 2000 and now Magpies have saved Balmain. But you'd save your wife or your brother, so what does that matter? Nobody should be keeping score any more.

His initial blue was with Matthew Ridge but when Robert’s got involved he DID give him a verbal serve before Robert’s got stuck into him.
As confirmed in a later interview with Graham Lowe, then Manly coach, it was comments about things other than football that set Robert’s off.

In fact ground went 90 degrees different direction .the little KB stand was opposite the hill about on halfway .yep no big stand
I think we had to play at the SSG during Renos, I can vaguely remember going to one there with granddad.

Clearing out my dear old mum’s place and I came across my Dad’s old Balmain Leagues 20 & 30 year membership appreciation key rings. Lots of old memories there, one even has his name on it, naturally I now have it on my keys. I probably better remember that if I ever lose my keys that the name on them is not mine.
Can you post a photo krissy?
I love seeing those sort of things.

WIN stadium, (Wollongong showground) sitting on the Southern Hill. Steelers and Tigers both very competitive sides. Easts were rubbish. Rugby League glory days.
enjoy the days easts we're rubbish taking Garry freeman from balmain and until they got fitler they were crap and easybeats

Two of my favourite memories happened at Townsville Airport of all places

One a Monday Night game we lapped the Cows 50-6 at Leichhardt ...next day I was at a work conference in Townsville and was in social dress until the nights events ...wearing obviously my WT's polo .....the entire Cows side were sitting at the airport after getting off an earlier flight ....so i decided to ask an out of form Carl Webb who he was playing next .....after he replied Isaid to him ...." Not the Cowboys ...the Cutters " referring to then feeder side Mackay Cutters

On a sad note I'd like to let people that don't know Carl is suffering from Motor Neurone's and pray for him in his fight to hopefully beat the disease

Secondly I organized through a certain players family to organize my family to meet the WT's players at the Townsville Airport ...as my sons arm was in a blue cast ...it was amazing that some of the players even knew and remembered my son's name ......still puts a lump in my throat .....was driving home from work with my son the other day and he even brought it up ....we have a collage of all the pictures on his wall
