Miller..Gone

I don't know if id put the blame soley on Potter. I'm sure he's taking advice from his coaching staff, McDonnell, maybe even the board, who knows? just seems suss that two coaches in succession are making the exact same mistakes. Who knows, maybe Sheens didn't have the amount of influence over the side we all though he did

Maybe they are not mistakes, and Miller is not up to it, Moltzen is better than the up and comers (at this point)

Its a bit hard to gauge imo if he is solely 'not up to it' after only four games.

Others get much more time than this.

As Macca said, Payten didnt seem to have a problem with him, won a premiership with him leading the team around.

If its his attitude, his persona…well we may as well get Elliot Goblet to play half....dont have a personality, dont be yourself, toe the line

....most halfbacks are a little bit 'out there' ...they arent robots, arent the norm, theyre the black sheep

Meanwhile in the Wests Tigers NRL, we go into another game without a recognise kicker (except for Turf Toe, who was bad enough before the injury). That is just madness.

There must be a real set against Miller within the 1st grade set up.

I agree that he was not afforded the same latitude or support that is regularly given to a lot of young players breaking into the NRL.

And where is this info coming from that he did not get along at the Roosters? Wasn't my mail when he came across…
- which was he felt he was stuck behind Pearce and Carney and wanted out.

That was going to be my point exactly. Surely it is a lot easier to assert your authority in the Under 20's competition due to the lesser intensity. I don't think it is fair to criticise the coaching staff for only giving him 4 games as he has had plenty of opportunity in State Cup and not impressed their either.

Who gets rolled out the red carpet and gets given a first grade position to show what they can do? I know a staff member doesn't get given the manager position for a month just because they think he/she may be a great manager. They have to work their way up and will be given opportunity when they deserve it.

I am with the coaching staff on this one. He was promising in 20's but not in State Cup or NRL. We have others in the squad that are more highly thought of so why hold Miller back from getting a go overseas. It wouldn't be fair to hold him back when the club knows he is not their long term solution.

i wonder what woulda hapened if miller had played last year in nsw cup than the nyc.

we might not have had this problem now

interestingly the 2 young halves that have excelled in recent times both debuted at 21 a full year after finishing NYC, maybe a year at NSW cup level may be the best option for these kids

cool, no big loss. Clearly had some personal issues, ditched by sheens, roosters and now potter. Plus wasnt that great a half or rather didnt fit in well at the tigs as he isn't dominant enough to take pressure off benji

Why say he had personal issues ? Why can't it just be that the club doesn't think he is the best halfback option ?

Personally I believe part of the problem is the NYC being under 20's. I feel it should be raised to under 23's.
The other option is, doing as Manly did with Daly Cherry-Evans. He played a year in QLD Cup to mature against men.

As Goose said, Miller should have been given this whole year or last, to play NSW Cup and then brought into 1st grade.

I think U/20s is a big problem. So many players are being lost or brought in too early. The age has to he raised up to 23.

No great loss losing Miller. Sure he didn't get an eternity to prove himself but IMO he had time enough to at least give a glimpse of what he was capable of and he really showed nothing at all apart from a 3 metre try vs Parra. There were no 40/20's, judicious kicking of any sort, putting runners into gaps, taking the line on, footwork. Nothing.
Good players at least show an insight into their ability within 10 or so games. People that are saying he was captain of the NYC Premiers last year are missing the fact that just because you are captain doesn't mean you are the best player in the team ie: Michael Ennis.

As far as his attitude goes all of the great halfbacks of recent seasons Alfie, Joey, Ricky Stuart, Thurston etc all have a touch of mischief and arrogance about them but they all have the talent to back it up. It wasn't evident that Miller did though TBH.

Good luck to him in ESL anyhow.

I wonder if he has it in him. I guess time will tell. So far in the top grade he hasn't looked the part though.

Anyone know a player called Jonny Thurston. He looked a bit ordinary is his first few games of First grade too. Or Benny Barba. Or Terry Campese.

Not saying Miller will be as good as any of those three. But they all struggled when they first came o grade. In fact, Campese was dog ordinary in his season.

Some are too quick to judge here.

So it still hasn't been confirmed yet , my question would still be "Are we trying to organize a trade "

Few Aussies in their line up O'Meley ,Seymour ,Ben Galea ,Daniel Holdsworth ,wonder if something is possibly doing there ??

A lot of people saying its his attitude, or he doesn't get along with the senior players. Has anyone actually confirmed this, or is it just a forum myth ??

All speculation mate. I have been on this forum in some form since 2006 and can tell you that in my experience about 0.01% of posts come from inside knowledge.

Having said that I would like to know what happened here. Miller wasn't killing it but he was playing better than 4 or 5 others. It was premature his axing if based on form.

hi i am a hull fc fan with happy tigers thoughts on a trade of our aussies, mark omeley has announced he will retire at the end of the season as has ben galea, brett seymour is in rehab for a depression related illness daniel holdsworth has just come back from injury and is in his first season with us and is our chief playmaker so i cant see there being a trade there.
our only player up for grabs is tom briscoe great britain winger who wants to play in oz by all accounts

I was sitting behind Miller and his girlfriend the Friday night at the game before he joined the injured players. I overheard a fan ask him if he was going and he replied I dont know yet. Although he was wearing a Tigers jumper to me his answer ment yes as he did not deny it.Good luck to him and all the best obviously his future is not at the Tigers
