Mitch Brown - Should he stay or should he go?

Mitch Brown.

23 years old (date of birth: 07/11/1987)

188 cms

95 kilograms.

Former Australian Schoolboy player in 2005.

Except for a couple of games I think Mitch Brown has handled himself well covering full back, centre and
winger. I know full back is his preferred position and played well in that position in our run to the finals and in the finals.

He is big and strong, can catch a bomb, has speed (I think last year he chased down one of the Titan's flyers), good tackler (uses his shoulders in defence) and runs good lines (evidence - the try he scored on Saturday night).

I think Full back is his best position once Wade Mckinnon retires or is injured. I know Mullaney and Meaney are also waiting in the wings.

Mitch Brown needs to work on his positional play, more involvement in attack and back himself.

Maybe Wade Mckinnon can work with him to improve his full back play.

Having said all of the above, Mitch is not re-signed for next year and if we sign Blair could be asked to leave.

I would love him to stay and further develop as a player. I rate him highly.

What are forum members opinion on Mitch Brown.

I love Mitch Brown. I think he's come a long way, he's always had the ability in him. He's just growing in confidence; the way he's attacking those high balls in defense is brilliant - something the Tigers have always lacked.

I really hope we keep him.

Stay for Sure,

I really like the way he is always working real hard. One of my Fav players.

They should sign him now - I didn't realise he was only 23.
Filled in great at fullback last year and has played good in the centres and on the wing this year.
As much as I'd love to see Mullaney given a crack at fullback when McKinnon goes I think Brown will be our best option .

I think the question is "who else wants him?"

The guy plays well and puts his body on the line, but he is clearly only a back-up option at the Tigers and a really good one at that. I wouldnt be offering any money to keep the bloke, but I'd be more than happy if we re-sign him to play State Cup and NRL if needed…

very much agree - Him and to some degree Beau Ryan are the only ones which Attack the high ball in defense - All due respect to Mckinnon, he is safe and solid under the high ball, but doesn't really attack it.

I'd like him to remain an "understudy" to Mckinnon until Mckinnon finishes up in 2012, covering him when he's injured etc.. keep him interested and around the starting 17 in some way shape or form. Then for Brown to land a long term contract, and be our fullback for the next 5 or so years after that.. He'll be only 25 then, so that is a definite possibility.

However, a smart club will snap him up before then, give him a permanent role, pay some form of overs, and he'll become a superstar for them…..

IMHO, if Mullaney goes so be it. Brown can learn to add dimensions to his game, much like Mckinnon has by starting to sniff around the ruck for an offload this year, and Mckinnon has looked like a superstar doing it. Add Mitch Browns Speed (the bloke chased down kevin gordon last year to save a try!!) and whooshka, look out.

Keep him, put him on one wing with Lote on the other. Let him play 1st grade at wing until McKinnon goes- then move him to fullback.

Here's a thought- Matt Utai….impact forward on the bench?

I like the idea of using Utai off the bench eventually. And the possible movement of Brown to fullback when McKinnon is gone.

I'd imagine the Eels may be interested in Brown though. I know they've signed Esi Tonga but they need more stocks in the outside backs department.

Mitch Brown should **STAY**…he is up there with McKinnon at Fullback and a hand player elsewhere in the backs!

He's a keeper for sure Good utility to have at the club . But if he looking at the future and playing time he may not stay as he will at best be a winger when we are full strength ( and that would mean playing him over Utai )

Definetly should keep Mitch Brown, i think he's GREAT. Will be real dissapointed if we don't re-sign him, so hopefully we do but i don't want him just to be pushed back to NSW cup. Mitch got the same deal at Sharks, only used when there was injuries. He's a great Fullback/Utility(though i am happy with McKinnon). Too much talent & not enough positions. We've got ALOT of great young talent at the moment. TIGERS MUST RE-SIGN MITCH BROWN.

Stay please.

Hasn't done anything wrong and really stepped up when needed.

I hear penrith are chasing him

Gus has said a few times he really likes Mitch Brown. Guys says he looks a good player but has never made it. Confidence is definitely the issue as he has the size and skill. Heres hoping he stays as at worst he is a utility back.

Mitch is a keeper, I would love to see him as our no. 1 fullback as we saw last year how good he could be. He just needs an injection of confidence and that doesn't happen when you are used as he has been this year.

Please stay at the Tigers Mitch.

They are losing Sandor Earl to the Storm so it makes sense. I'd like Brown to stay at the Tigers, I think he's a better player now than when at the Sharks and certainly offers utility value off the bench, but at full strength it's hard to find a place for him, and he may fancy his chances elsewhere…I don't know, but yeah, I'd like him to stay at the Tigers.

Id like him to stay more then say beau ryan but not at the expense of a young gun coming through if thats the case

If he can get a much better offer then he would be mad not to go cause hes a stop gap for us.
