Mitchell Moses Suspension Thread

Mitchell has learnt an important lesson and soon enough it will pass. Like how Andrew Johns and everyone else who's uttered a racist comment gets glossed over.

Tbh I watched it live and didn't hear the gay bit. I heard the last word though. I wonder what the reaction would be if it wasn't recorded and a player made a complaint? I'm sure this isn't the first time someone has used these words before. Suspensions shouldn't be on the basis of how good the recording system is. I have no problem with the NRL's action but I expect officials including touch judges to report anything similar from this time on.

If I remember correctly there was a similar (not gay) abusive comment to Robbie Farah from a Dragons player during a finals match a couple of years ago. Robbie was asked by the ref if he wanted to report it but the Dragons player apologized to Farah and that was the end of it.

Great article about this by Miranda Divine in todays Tele. I suggest reading it.

Agreed. And I can testify to the fact, as one with teenage kids, that this generation use the term gay very differently to the social guardians. They are constantly calling situations and people gay - as in lame, stupid,
I think it is time for all to move on.

I understand where you are coming from with this and I used to agree, but in recent times I've come to appreciate the impact that it has on people, particularly those struggling with their identity.

As a "kid" of the new generation, I now no longer use it; I hope Others come to act the same way

_What Moses actually said was “f … ing gay c ...”, during an on-field biffo with Bateman in the dying moments of Saturday’s Under 20s state of origin game.\
\
These immortal words were captured on a referee’s microphone, and rugby league’s anti-homophobia police swung into action.\
\
**There was no problem with the players trying to punch each other. No problem with the foul language. No problem with the sexist c-word.**\
\
But woe betide the player who offends the gods of homosexuality._

No, col. Its a blog that has no basis in reality.

According to this dingbat, the NRL doesn't care about fighting or the foul language of the c-word.

Just ignore the fact we now have a 1 punch sinbin rule and another NSW player was similarly investigated for writing c*** on his strapping.

Read her other blogs/opinions....plenty of "conservatives under attack" fluff to give a fair idea of how she was going to approach any given issue (the left is wrong, right defends common sense yet again blah blah).

Here is an article which simplifies and explains why this issue was dealt with correctly.

The old Aussie colloquial "Bastard" is today used more and more as a term of endearment, quite different from its dictionary meaning. If you used this term to describe, for example, a friend from a country other than Australia, there is a chance that he may take offence. The understood meaning of such colloquials depends on what environment/social circles you take part in. It is therefore quite likely that a person who is used to an everyday rugby league environment would take the meaning of a colloquial quite different to a person from a different environment.

There are honest to god battles to fight regarding racism, homophobia and other issues.

We shouldn't be wasting time on the cosmetic ones.

But we should be wary of people like magpiecol who try to get us to read the gutter press of News Ltd and the thoughts (as if she ever had an original one…) of Miranda Divine. Gotta love that name though..... very dragqueenish. See ya at The Imperial after the game on Friday night magpiecol!!!
