Moltzen finding his feet at fullback

Tim Moltzen is feeling more at home in the full-back role with every game after regaining his confidence from a knee reconstruction.

Moltzen’s 2010 season was reduced to just five games but the exciting utility back has played every game this year as either a full-back, centre or as a makeshift half.

He says his combination with five-eighth Benji Marshall, half-back Robert Lui, and hooker Robbie Farah continues to grow, making the ‘spine’ of the Wests Tigers a dangerous outfit.

“It has just come with time. The more we play together, the more confident we get and we start to sort of know where we have got to be at what time,’’ Moltzen said.

“ It worked well in the back end of ’09 and then into ‘010\. Obviously with my knee injury, it took me a fair bit of time to get back.

“I got given the chance to play some full-back at the back end of this year and have just tried to take it with both hands.

“I’m just playing with a little bit more confidence. All of the guys around me, especially Robbie Farah, Benji and Robert Lui, are definitely playing with some confidence now.

“It is good for us going forward into the semis.”

Moltzen admitted it was hard not to look at the Telstra Premiership ladder heading into the Gold Coast Titans match at Campbelltown last Monday night.

“We have all tried to say we are not looking at it but I think we have had a sneaky peek here or there,’’ Moltzen said.

“I know the Coach has but he doesn’t say much about it.

“We knew we had to come to Campbelltown and get the two points and try to work hard on our for and against.

“We can’t get complacent going into the Sharks game at their home (ground) this Saturday. It is their last game of the season so they will want to put in a big performance.

“We really need to turn up. If we work hard enough, then hopefully we can make that fourth spot ours.”
