Moltzen-Half Back or Fullback implications for others

Interesting topic. I was going to say…

brown @ fullback - I think hes a stronger runner & safer under the high ball than moltzen
molzten @ halfback - hes got a great combination with benji & from what farrah has said is also great @ organising the team

In saying that, I haven't seen much of miller or tedesco & from everyones comments they sound like real talent, but maybe need another season before hitting the big time. And then I wouldn't be surprised if reddy got the fullback job!

Either way, with all this competition I can't imagine how hard the lads are training in preparation. I have a good feeling about next year!

Moltzen & Marshall will be the halves. Best of mates which will help with communication on the field. They will form a strong combination as the year passes on. I dont know why alot of people on here are so anti Moltzen. I think he did ok considering he came back from a knee reco! If he gets selected at half, lets give him a good hand full of games to see what comes of it. My bet is that he'll prove his critics wrong.

Tedesco and Miller are going to have to wait another year or two. I dont think Sheens will play young unexperienced guys in key positions just that easily. And I back him in doing that. They need more time to mature and gain more experience training with the NRL squad. If injuries occur then who knows they might just get a run.

Yes things did improve with Moltzen, but one of the problems, even at the back end of this year, was his ball hogging…..not a good thing to be doing, especially with a halfback.

Geez, I hope your right… Unfortunately I dont buy the 2 x Five Eighth's formula when it comes to Benji Marshall. We only have to look back at what it did for NZ in the Four Nations. Benji needs to play wider and allow someone inside him to run the team with Robbie.

Sheens knows Moltzen at Fullback as an additional ball-player has far more appeal!

The Tiges won't have to rush to re-sign Moltzen. Tim turned his back on an approved three-year deal to stay with the team for just a season. He will be the last player Sheens signs at the end of the year. The other clubs will learn from the Dragon experience and give him a wide berth… particularly with his injuries. It wouldn't surprise me to see Tim serve out his days at the Tiges on the minimum contract fee. ps The football graveyard is full of half backs who couldn't make the transition from juniors to seniors.

There was a piece on Miller on the news last night, along with Ayshford and Humble helping out with cooking for the less fortunate. Miller went on to say he's training as hard as he can to try and get first crack at the 7 jersey for next year. Personally I think he's in with a huge chance as he possesses a better passing and kicking game than Moltzen.

And just on Ayshford, he looks like he may have put on a couple of kilos, looked a little bigger up top.

Moltzen deserves first crack @ the one jumper after last years effort & Miller & Chisolm will fight out the half bacck position with Miller edging out Chisolm.

I am sure the Tigers will look after Moltzen long term and good luck to the kid hope he has a great year in 2012.

The Dragons have moved on, so much so that they are now chasing other players at the Tigers.

Watch this space.

Is Firebreather questioning whether Moltzen can adequately make the step up to First Grade???? Considering he has played in the top grade for over three years I believe it is fair to say that Moltzen will not be in the graveyard because he couldn't hack it in the top grade.

St George don't offer $400K per year to a player that hasn't proven themselves. Sounds like a sour grapes post to me.

B&W, are you referring to Brown? Although you did indicate plural…....after Gower, Chase, Saffy, seems like we are the Red and White feeder club. No wonder they won a comp!

Are you serious mate,MOLTZEN was absolutely terrible at fullback .i seriously can't believe how he is even playing first grade.won't run the ball back ,won't tackle ,will let someone else catch a bomb when he can, he's like a fish out of water..BIG NO….

I wouldn't say he was terrible, I thought he improved a lot in the back end of the year - in saying that I dont believe fullback is his natural position.

Personally I would have him on the bench, can provide some spark in the halves and can cover every spot in the backline.

Helmesy's right Moltzen was far better the last 6-8 weeks and if he can improve on that he could become one of the top 3-4 fullbacks in the comp

Never thought I would say that last season

Yes he wasnt good early in the season, but the last couple of months he was very good so credit where credit is due Tiger rat.

He was coming back from a knee injury. Add that to being told by your club to look elsewhere for next season & I can understand why he maybe lacked a bit of motivation/confidence early on. But he was coming up with some great combinations in the run home. Lets hope its a case of onwards & upwards for 2012.

Interesting seeing some forum comments of moving Benji to full back with the possibility of miller/moltzen/lawrence etc in the halves. Benji would have a great impact running the ball back into space & popping up in the backline here & there. Could be a genius move, but would this be taking too much away from our attack options in the halves?

Damn its gonna be a long 3 months!!

No way Benji will play fullback. This idea gets floated by someone every year, but it just ain't going to happen.
