Moltzen Staying Or Going

400k might be chicken feed if it doesn't count towards the cap but what if it means a player swap?
would you let go of someone like heighno or beau ryan just to get moltz back?

Just announced, Moltzen is seeking a release from his contract with the Dragons! His manager is having a meeting with officials today to discuss what they can do to have him stay.

There is the full story on NRL live and nrl.com.au

Remember the payout for Sam Burgess I think it was from his contract didn't seem to affect Souths ability in signing players last year…

The rumors were it was large but from the outside it didn't appear like the compensation dented their cap

That was a transfer fee that Rusty paid for Sam Burgers out of his own pocket, it wasn't included in the Bunnies cap.

Whats the difference? No idea! But for some reason transfer fees like that don't necessarily come out of a clubs cap in the NRL.

As for rumours Moltzen requiring $400k to be released? NO THANK YOU!

i just saw this on foxsports. in my opinion, as others, i think moltzen should do what he agreed to and go to st george.
he signed a contract and a deals a deal.

It would just be a general cash payment between 1 club to another. It's not effecting a players salary, so it wouldn't be in the cap. We would on take on what moltzens salary is in our cap.

But $400k, way too much!

A deal is a deal.

I don't mind if he goes to the dragons and sulks for three years.

Just as long as he doesn't gloat and rest on his laurels here.

Dragons would be stupid not to release him if the rumours are true. By giving a price for his release, it shows he really isn't that valuable to them. And the fact he doesn't want to be there could effect his performance next season.

Everyone who says 'A deal is a deal' is 100% right….

BUT

It is no longer a deal if BOTH parties are willing to terminate it.

If Tim just doesnt show up at Dragons training because he has changed his mind, that is WRONG.
But if he stays because BOTH parties are happy with the outcome, then what has he done wrong?

It's not like he's the first player to sign elsewhere and then go back on it and want to stay at his current club. He might have to pull the old "compassionate reasons" card out!

sigh - if only you could actually view the jubilee road forums to see what they are saying. On Facebook they are already cutting their wrists….

stupid pretentious mod review forum -

Most of the time in these situations the player stays.

It's like changing your mind a day before you get married - not many weddings go ahead after one party has a change of heart!

If he does go to the Dragons there will always be that element of 'he didn't really want to come'.

So I reckon we can pretty much prepare for more of Moltzen in 2012 which will have some people crying and some others absolutely jumping for joy!

If this 400k doesn't come out of the cap for 2012, then where does it come from?

It's just a cash payment between clubs tiger91\. Has nothing to do with a payment to a player.

i dont think tim will be going to the dragons now, even if he did his heart wouldnt be in it after the circus thats been created now.

is the $400k amount the dragons want and nothing else? surely this is only a starting offer and they will negotiate from there, but $400k is too much. i'd drop about half that money for him but wouldnt go any higher.

I highly doubt that Grant would be eyeing the fullback position. Its only his first year in league and would be lacking the positional play of a FB. Also, Wayne Cousins said at an open training day that they hope he will be able to fill a similar role to Pat Richards, so I think the wing is where we will see Grant next year.
