Moltzen Staying Or Going

Cause Lui situation happened at end of year
Maybe the Dwyer prognosis of missing 2012 is clear and frees up cap.

I don't know mate.

Legally we may be in the right. There is nothing wrong with trying to get out of a contract. If saints allow it , it's a business decision. If they don't he goes to saints.

Why are people saying they are back tracking.

How do you know we have or have not approved the signing ???

Yes Lui and Dwyer is prob the reason we are tying to keep him, but what club wouldn't. The cap is so tight the club prob had no way of keeping him. Now things have changed and if we still hadn't given approval we have the right to.

We don't know the ins and outs of this. We shouldnt start accusing the club of being amateurish or un ethical till we know the reasons.

The saints signed him without consulting the tigers. That was very well publicized. So its never been rosey from day one. Were the saints ethical then ????

But why wait 3 months to bring it up again? Why didn't they hash it out when the Saints announced his signing back in July? Maybe they wanted to wait until the off season to clear it up, so as not to unsettle the playing group anymore than they already had.. but why not release a statement to let all those involved know that it was an ongoing dispute.. why let it hang there for both Dragons fans and Tigers fans to believe that he was a Dragon for the next 3 seasons.

I don't really care about the ethical argument, a football club is a business and if Tigers management are worried about Lui's future and decide to exploit a loophole regarding Moltzens contract, hey, I really don't care. But you can't tell us that we can't accuse the club of looking amateurish.. because thats exactly how it looks.

Heh, at least we won't be in for a dull off season.

I wonder how Dragons fans will react if he does run out in the red V next season. Football fans have long memories and if there's a presumption through this saga that Moltz's heart isn't in it (playing for Dragqueens), they might boo him off the park.

If the Saints go as bad as I think they will go next season they might be booing their own players off

Totally agree Underdog but did you have to put a picture of Michael Jackson on my computer screen

Explains why only Payten was honoured as a departing player at our last home game

Did they hedge their bets with Gibbo too?

I'm in two minds about the whole situation..

Part of me wants him to do the morally and ethically correct action here and honour his contract with the Dragons, but the other part of me (the tiger fan part of me) wants him to remain at Wests Tigers…even more so after watching Bon's Moltzen highlights.

Now, I understand the Wests Tigers is technically a business and any goal of a business is to gain a profit, however, most businesses that do this, do it unethically........ Would the Tigers do that? And for that matter... would it be lucrative for the tigers to pay a hefty compensation fee towards the Dragons in leu of Moltzen?

This is a tough situation! And its going to be an interesting few days/weeks

It would be tough if we knew the details.

We don't know what the terms are so we can't say we are being unethical.
As I said before nothing wrong with trying to get out IF he is tied up with approval. It's unto the saints if they let him go

It's like saying it's unethical for a club to sign a player whilst under contract for the same time

We just don't know the details. Wait and see

Facts are we the fans don't know the full details. Are we ethical or not?? No. Not until it comes out. That's simple to understand.

Wests Tigers have sensationally revealed they never released Tim Moltzen from his NRL contract to join St George Illawarra in 2012.

The Tigers have set the scene for a fiery battle for the talented utility's services next season, essentially declaring Moltzen's deal with the Dragons invalid as he remains under contract with the Tigers.

It was revealed earlier on Wednesday that the Tigers utility could remain at the club next season after seeking a release from his deal to join St George Illawarra, which was announced by the Dragons earlier this year.

Tigers officials met with Moltzen's manager Martin Tauber on Wednesday afternoon to discuss the possibility of him staying.

Tauber and St George Illawarra chief executive Peter Doust both said in separate statements on Wednesday that Moltzen had signed a deal with the Dragons.

But on Wednesday evening, the Tigers released a short statement stating they never agreed to Moltzen's early departure to join the Dragons next season - with his original Tigers contract valid until the end of 2012.

"Whilst it was announced earlier this year by St George-Illawarra Dragons that Tim had signed a new contract with them to commence in 2012, Wests Tigers has not granted him a release from his existing contract with the club that expires at the end of next season," the statement said.

"The matter is ongoing and the club will work with Tim's manager and the Dragons to resolve the situation as quickly as possible."

Mate, i'll see you that thread and raise you this one

Well there is a good start. At least we know the reasons

And only guessing the Lui/Dwyer saga has given them a reason to push the point. If the two players were playing, tigers wouldn't have cap space. Now we might.

Love the off season excitement.

I care about the rep of this club, and if Moltzen stays a Tiger in 2012 after all that crap midyear, the rep of the club will not look good esp. with the media exaggerating everything. No one will give a damn about the crap that went on inside, we will be called unethical and IMO the rep of this club is clean per se and I have always prided on that.

St. George Illawarra didn't mind stuffing Wests around by telling everyone just before one of our games that they signed Moltzen. Stuff 'em!

Good on Tim Moltzen!Gutsy decision to change his mind and try to come back to tigers, its obvious his mates play there and with the National coach in charge who has a say an is influential in other rep teams it would seem a wise choice to stay a tiger…As a supporter id much rather support a team where the players not only want to play there but are good role models off the field, and Tim fits both these categories

The clubs rep!!! Compared to what. Sticking fingers up people's bum. That was forgotten in 12 months and that was 100x worse then this

This is not a popularity contest to look good. It's a business. This won't even be a bleep on the radar come start of 2012 season

Masterstroke by Humphreys. It's nit unethical at all, fact is Tauber and St George have been unethical and "amateurish" as ink puts it, having conducted a deal without the correct processes.
Has this never happened in any other workplace? Employee goes for interview, signs contract, resigns, only to have former company offer more money etc.. Bad luck to new company. Why is certain people holier than thou because it's a football team????
Happens everyday and no-one gives a rats… Competitive Market forces!!

Yeah…they really stuffed us round, those bastards.
I mean, we tell him to go find another club, so he does just that - goes finds another club, that club decides to announce theyve got a new player....the bloody hide of them! :unamused:
