Moltzen Staying Or Going

If I relied on gentleman's agreements in my business I would be bankrupt.

In the end of the day it is a lesson learned, they are businessmen, whether is unethical or not Doust should have got the release before he announced the signing.

He was the one who left his balls hanging out.

Last week I would have been happy to honour the agreement and let Tim go. Now The Dragons can get stuffed. As someone said earlier, there is no team in history with such a warped perception of entitlement!

Why would they want a player that doesn't want to go there?
 
Jeeze, Doust is back to his former media glory already.

By the sounds of it, haven't we already released Moltzen?
 
Late last week Moltzen indicated to Tigers management he would prefer to stay with Wests.

If Doust was as efficient in the signing of Moltzen as he is with whinging and digging up quotes from 4 months ago, we would not be having this conversation right now.

Macarthur adv article LaT is a pretty nothing piece, blokes been reading the forum and put 2 & 2 together, no quotes, no nothing

Going by what Doust has said, it seems its common practice in NRL to not finalise deeds of realease before signing a contract. Fairly casual, much like telling a player he's free to see what he can find in way of a better deal elsewhere

Yeah looks that way. But Humphreys statements on Monday seemed to pretty much signal the end of the standoff.

We need Moltzen to come out publicly and say I DON'T WANT TO GO TO ST GEORGE. Simple, makes us look better and Doust look like a tool.

You don't run businesses on hopes and dreams with gentlemans agreements.

They should have got it in writing from tigers a release. It's very simple. If they havnt it's their own fault. No Ifs or buts.

This is the fault of st George. Not the tigers. If they want to run their business with words and not documented deals. Their problem.

With the Lui saga over our heads we need to do what we can to hold moltz.

It doesn't matter what the public perception is of this. It will be forgotten before the first balls kicked in 2012.

Humphries to me is playing his cards with caution. Not going to come out publicly and say what's happening till it's a done deal. Only st George run their mouths off before the I s are dotted and Ts crossed.

hello tiger mates, been a member for a few months, always read the post but never write.. thanks for some good reads. My personal opinion is he has never been given a clear go in his prefered position . In 2010 played 4 games before being injured and out for the year, 2011 starts him of the bench the first 5 to 6 rounds giving him limited time on the paddock. Then when he finds himself starting he plays him at fullback :sign: and takes him 10 weeks to find some kind of form, and surely being asked to look elsewhere has been uneccesary pressure . I dont think Lui has been any better and has cost us that many tries with his defence. Lui gotta go and think Moltzen gotta be our halfback even though he has signed with dragons . But bad luck Doust if we change our mind and decide to keep him (its business as usual) should of got a release first, does Gasnier negotiations ring a bell you tool. Anyway got away from the subject folks (sorry) but i think this kid will be something special in the next 3 to 4 years in his prefered position. Tigers premiers 2012 :wink:
 
I'm torn on what I think we should do.

Most business operate on a level of "good faith" depending on what business you are in and what is considered general practice, dictates how much faith is involved.

That said, it is not difficult to get an official document signed (in this case a release)

I agree with doust, i would not sign a release until i had my new contract.
 
Imo Humphreys part in the october era of this saga is hard to find fault with. But his handling of the roster midyear ultimately created this - they should've told Moltzen and his manager to wait until the end of the year to reassess the roster, instead of telling the they can look elsewhere.

Doust screwed up by not asking for a formal release when they "signed" Moltzen and that + our management reassessment of where Moltzen may sit regarding our roster next year has changed.

Imo if Moltzen didn't want to stay then he'd would've been given his release weeks ago, so i guess he wants to stay and we now want him again so are attempting to negotiate for him to stay.

Goose on our behalf I think we should of fought it to the bitter end or not picked the fight to start with
We had the upper hand (taking out the ethical or moral decisions involved )
Its probably up to Moltzen and Tauber now whether they want Humphrey's to continue the fight or let it go

demon 100 per cent correct . Theres no doubt Moltzen wants to stay , he never wanted to go . Legally there is nothing saints can do hes contracted to us and is bad management from Doust and co …. its like what the NRL says they only have one contract and that is from us registered for next year so good riddance. The only thing that saints will complain about is that there roster has been affected for 2012 because of the Moltzen signing going in there cap. Im sure the dragons wouldnt do any favours for us. But if we have had a change of heart and the player wants to stay well then . Im sure dragons will not want him after stating his desire to stay with the tigers you would be worried that his potential wont be met. Lui is getting the punt that is obvious....
 
Why would you want a player that doesn't want to play for you. If a player was coming to the Tigers and then had a change of heart, I would rather let him go than force him to play for us. Just a thought.
