Moltzen to be squeezed out

I'm no fan of Anasta's (far, far from it) but I'd rather have him at 6 than a bloke with zero kicking game.

In fact that's why I'd be happy enough to see Moltzen leave: he's billed as a "utility" yet he has next to no utility value. He's just about passable at fullback, hopeless in the halves because he can't kick, a mediocre centre and has doesn't play on the wing.

We all agreed to give everyone a fresh start under potter and moltzen was one of the "seniors" who was improving.

what? i dont remember any agreement there!

as for moltzen, given batboys post i have to agree. i actually think he is good at fullback. not flashy, and when he used to never want to hit it back up it used to drive me crazy, but he was much better last i saw.

in the grand scheme though, not a player i would lose any sleep over being moved on…

I seem to remember when Moltzen was filling in at halfback once we won seven or so straight. Can't remember if it was 2009 or 2011 as he was out most if 2010 injured. But for some reason Sheens kept putting him at fullback at every opportunity.

He's certainly got nothing on Teddy but could be a good cover for injuries/rep footy. Maybe some time back playing lower grades he can work on a few things.

We won 5 in a row with him in 2009 when Morris was moved to the bench and Gallant was at fullback. Then Lui came in as half, we lost a couple of games and missed the semis by one point. Overall, Moltz's record at halfback is pretty good.

There's a couple of things to consider:
1) we could always use some depth in the halves/fullback
2) contrary to what some think, I reckon he was improving nicely under Potter
3) his previous goes in the halves were mostly accompanying Marshall. He might be better suited with an organiser like Brooks as his partner.

He'd be on at least 200k. Humpty was over paying everyone. If he can go without us paying a cent then great. If not he will be a backup option in the halves.

If brooks does the organising, maybe moltz could just run and pass/kick occasionally. Not really a ball player, but he was a halfback most of his junior career…

I prefer Moltzen to Anasta any day. People here have short memories he was one of our better players this year before his injury. He is not a fullback and never should have been made to play there but because he has utility value when injury struck. I am not sure who is playing 5/8 next year but he will be a chance if he can come back from injury. My opinion is no one should walk into a starting spot, it is there to be earned and I hope Potter can get the best out of all our players early in the season. A healthy club is a competitive one.

Moltzen hit the ground running for his début year and showed a lot of promise. Acting like he spent his entire career letting down supporters is just wrong.

Not fussed either way …..... he hasnt had much luck with injury but is he an asset to the club or liability ? For me I dont know the answer. Whichever way they go I am Ok.

x2

Molzen is one of the fastest players in the side. Playing half with Brooks he would be a sensation chasing through on Brooks' kicks.

This I can agree with. With Moltzen at 6 and Teddy at fullback, it would give Brooks plenty of options to kick to.

Then again, I do NOT want him anywhere else in the team, not do I want him to hold up Austin. 6 or nowhere for me

Disagree, molten was one of the fastest in te side,

2 knee recos, it will be slow returning from that, and he will prob never be as sharp as he once was.

I don't hate the guy… Far from it!!
But I don't understand the blind optimism...
- The ole "He'll be right, He just needs time".. It's rubbish!!
At this rate, The guy will be 29 and people will be still arguing if the guy is a fullback??? :crazy

The general opinion is, He's been too stuffed around.. Moving to centre, Half, 5/8, Fullback....
IT'S SIMPLY NOT TRUE!!

Our former hierarchy have done absolutely everything possible to keep this guy IN the team... Regardless of cost.
Put simply...

He WAS a 5/8 of reasonable promise... He was never gonna get the job over Marshall and rightly so.
They tried him at Centre - He's not tough enough
They Tried him at Half - He CANNOT kick, Never has been able too (And after 6 years of professional training, Probably never will)
They tried him at FB - Whilst showing some promise, His defence for a FB and natural instinct for the position is not, can not and will not ever be up to NRL Standard... (After 4 years in and out of the position, He has been trumped by a Kid!!)
He's been tried on the Bench... Next year he will loose that spot top Halatau... Again, Rightly so!! Dene has been playing great footy in a team doing a fair bat better than us!!

The team and it's administration, Need to stop trying to mould this player into the player they want him to be...
It simply IS NOT gonna happen!!

So many players of similar calibre have been moved on (Without being granted a fair crack) because of Tim, And he simply hasn't warranted his place in this team.

I hope that moving forward, The best players are picked on form as the best in the position (When fit)
We can't and won't be successful until this happens!!

I like him and always have.

I leave him in the team and have him pressure Austin for 5/8\. Te competition could bring out the best in both.

I'd never put him in fullback again and always thought half was his position when benji played.

But I wouldn't be too sad to see him go.. Like I said depth and fighting to keep first grade spots is good for a team, and maybe boost Austin I train hard as a 5/8.

Moltzen is a jack of all trades, but an expert at none.

He is handy at times, and has talent that everyone can see.

But am uncertain where he fits in with next years squad?

5/8 is Austin, anasta, sironen

A back up fullback or half is a possibility, but we are prob paying overs for a shadow player. But after our injury run this year, who knows?
