Moses V Austin

Austin is a good player in his own right but tonight was one of those nights where things never really clicked for him, the air swing at the ball with the line wide open in the second half summed it up, as Moses was jolly on the spot to dive on the ball.

Using one poor game to try and prove your point is fairly ordinary, makes us look like a d*** of a fan base, coming all but last but we are too good for the buy of the year. Get real.

Not to mention winning a couple games and discussing whether or not we're premiership contenders next yr. Look, i understand when its a tough yr, wins can feel euphoric. And yes i agree this side has ridiculous potential. But lets try and not get too carried away.

Agreed.

Other fans must seriously be laughing at this crap.

I really like Austin & am glad he's found a happy home at the Raiders.
BUT - I was sitting beside a Manly fan at the game tonight and we spent the whole time laughing at how much of a ball hog Austin is - 99.9999999% of the time he'll dummy regardless of the situation.

Agree with both.

And yes, tonight's win made me feel euphoric. I'm already watching the replay. And loving it.

Me too - and none of us should have to justify enjoying a good win, and revelling in one of our most maligned young guns outplay the bloke that he has been compared to all year. I can guarantee if the result was the other way around that the knockers would be at it again wheeling the Austin barrow. So I for one will enjoy this win more than any this year, with my feet still planted on the ground.

Ah the fickle wests tiger fans.

HA HA HA!!!! At their best!!!!!

Just once I want to see someone come out and admit they were wrong!

10 weeks ago I came out and said this season was a training run. We couldn't hope for more.

I don't know if Austin is a natural five-eigth or half. And this isn't based on tonights game either. He's a utility player or #14\. Austin's strength I think is in his versatility. Moses is a naturally gifted Half/Fullback. I think it's unfair comparing the two.

Austin is getting crucified by the Raiders fans on their forums. Here I was thinking you lot were bad hahahahaha

Both players are quality, it was sad to see Austin go but we couldn't compete with the money the Raiders offered

In saying all that, glad he had a shocker and please keep that panzy haircut and stupid beard

Few things were clear tonight:

1\. Austin is a good player but I think he tried too hard to make a statement against his old club and mistakes ensued.

2\. As others have said, Moses seems to be a more natural or traditional ball playing 5/8 whereas Austin is a running, support 5/8 like Terry Lamb.

3\. We probably should have tried to retain Blake. He has great utility value and with the right coaching could have been very useful at centre for us.

4\. Austin is obviously channeling General Custer to have that sort of goatee. I half expected him to yell "Charge!" every time he got the ball.

One thought how would Moses look at the back of the pack the Raiders have that is the only way to compare , I say would look pretty good!

Their was room in our squad for both players if it was managed the right way, but both could not wear the no6 jumper. Different types of players and both will win you games.

Austen was not great tonight but was not terrible either

There is still plenty of room on Mitchell's bandwagon for the naysayers, a few ropes hanging from the back to tie their barrows on as well if they are still having trouble letting them go.

It was only 3-4 weeks ago Austin scored 3 Tries [purely backing-up] and his coach still came out with "he has alot of work to do off the ball".

Austin has always played for himself, not the team.

Most of you guys are off your heads. yes Moses is improving quickly, i rate the guy as much as anyone but letting Austin go was not a good decision.

Using one poor game to try and prove your point is fairly ordinary, makes us look like a dick of a fan base, coming all but last but we are too good for the buy of the year. Get real.

Each to their own.

They are just 1 win above us, if that's the difference buy of the year would be then they can have him. The kid has a huge amount of skill and talent no doubts about it.

Austin reminds me a lot like a Benji style player except with the team playing capability. He runs one out, is a great support play, brilliant step and when the chips are down overplays his hand. Austin doesn't have the passing capability or vision however.

With the forward pack and support cast the Raiders have a player like Austin should be leading them well into the 8.

Last night showed the difference between Moses and Austin. It has been the difference all along but watching the 2 different playing styles against each other was very interesting.

They both support, both can step and both are smart footy players however Moses has the capability to feed his outside men rather than run it all the time. Moses leads the team around where as Austin doesn't. Moses is showing great control of his game considering he is 20 and starting to be the real leader barking orders at the team. Austin never has or will do that he isn't that type of player. Moses passing game on both sides flat and often onto the chest in front of a running player is very impressive. His long kicking game is something we will see more of and one most halves don't have either.

Austin had a terrible game last night and supporters compare, it's natural it's up to the players to remove the fodder opportunities and prove they would have been better. Last night Moses won.
