Most painful losses that you can remember

I was thinking today about the most painful losses I have experienced in my 35 years as a Magpies and WT fan.

Think the most painful one was when the Magpies lost to Manly in 1984 at Lidcombe Oval. We led the whole afternoon and lost on the bell when Noel Cleal scored and Steve Hegarty kicked the conversion from the sideline to win. We only won one game that year think that's why it hurt so much.

Second would be against Manly again in 1987 at Brookvale when Kevin Ward scored on the bell after we led 25-12 with 8 mins to go. Manly won 26-25

Third would be the WT Semi final loss to Easts in extra time 2 years ago when Anasta fluked that field goal.

Probably the Dragons in the 2010 final. That or the Warriors last year.

The Roosters game in 2010 and the Manly game where Orford put in that banana kick and Brett Stewart ran over the top of Benji to grab the ball and score are up there too

89 GF hands down for me…

However there have also been a lot of losses to the rabbits that are up there.

Hey I survived 89, the football gods could never, ever serve up anything worse than that!

Every time I walk into the SFS I look over to the south-eastern corner and see Ferguson stepping and weaving, it still brings back painful memories and emotions.

Terrible day, a game that broke Balmain's heart and from which we never recovered.

Roosters 2010 hurt, but it was an amazing game so i didn't mind that much..
I cried two weeks later though against St George aha, i remember i was so pumped up, the thoughts of 05, similar setting, we were so close but owell..

Warriors hurt a little last year aswell

also Parramatta 09 when it was pretty much Hayne v Benji , both teams were making a run to the top 8, was pretty much who won got through and im pretty sure that was Tuiaki's last game :/

Hard to say for me but probably that game against Manly in 06 where Stewart scored just before fulltime. For me that hurt the most because of not only how it happened, but also because we defended so well in that game with our injured players andthe fact that our season was right in the balance.

The loss to Newcastle in 07 was another although we werent playing well and really if we won it would of just extended our season by 1 game anyway.

Also both of our losses to Souths 2 years ago when Merritt kicked the field goal on fulltime and then later in the year we dominated Souths and could of won by 50, yet we let them back in it and Farrell scored at the end of Golden Point.

A couple of shlackings as well, I remember when we lost 56-0 (38-0 at half time) to the Roosters at Campbelltown in 04, that was the 2nd game I had been to ever. And many more from those early days.

for me its more indivuals than games, so for me its john donelly (rip) les boyd - wests to manly, tommy raudonikis - wests to newtown, terry lamb - wests to canterbury, terry hill - wests to manly and gareth ellis - wests tigers to hull.

From the early yrs, the game against the Dragons at Leichardt when Blacklock chipped and regathered and scored on the bell to beat us. That was pretty devastating. In recent times the two finals we lost in 2010\. The Titans game last year realy p!ssied me off

The Penrith loss in 2000 is up there when we led 31-6 and got run down

The back to back 50 point losses for the Saints and the Roosters in 2004

The loss in 2004 ?? v the Broncos when we had a Pat Richards try disallowed virtually on the siren

Rooster 2010, I played that scrum over and over in my mind for weeks. 89 GF is up there as well, but it was so long ago the scars have healed

What a depressing thread. There have been so many.

Getting belted by Parramatta 66-12 or something like that at Leichhardt Oval in 2001.

Losing to the Dragons with a Nathan Blacklock chip and chase right on full time. He kicked right in front of me and you could see it coming, it was like watching a slow motion train wreck. Think that may have been 2002?

2000 leading against Penrith 31-8 and getting run down. I think that was at Penrith Stadium? That was the start of our end of seasom collapse if I remember correctly.

There was also a game against Canberra in 2000 in the snow that we should have won.

Getting belted by 50 two weeks in a row against the Dragons and Roosters in 2004\. I was at both games and clearly remember being laughed at by Roosters supporters in particular.

Manly in 2006 where Stewart scored on the buzzer.

2007 losing against the Knights in the last round. Was one of the most disgraceful collapses I've witnessed. We made a crocked druggie Robbie O'Davis look like Clive Churchill and Billy Slater combined.

2009 loss against Parramatta was hard to take. Everytime I see that Hayne chip and regather I want to throw up.

Any loss to Souffs in the last three years. Last years 50 point hammering at the SCG was completely embarrassing. But the close ones sting more. That last Farrell try was scored right in front of me, I always seem to sit in the worst places.

More recently, 2010 semi against the Roosters has to be the worst. Closely followed by the Warriors semi last year. Both times we lost the unloseable.

The loss to the roosters at campbelltown in 2010 was a hard one to take. Tackled and lead all game than Ryan dropped the bomb with 5mins to go

I'm with those that have said the '89 Grand Final, it cuts so deep still. I can't watch a reply, I switch off anyone talking about, I try to have as little to do with it as possible.

Currently with the Wests Tigers, I'm more angry about the 2010 loss against the Roosters than painful, but the Dragons finals game that year and the Warriors game last year are still painful.

Ive been thinking about this a lot lately. I think the loss against the dragons.. Pushed around, soward pushing us around and we let them, that has me disappointed.

Although I think I'm still hurt from the warriors last year, two years in a row. Still hungover from that game.

Great memory, HT , and as soon as I read the thread title thought of the painful13-12 loss against the Dragons in 2010 , Blacklock nearly running the length of the field on the Grandstand side at Leichhardt on the bell & the 50-Nil defeat in 2004 at Kogarah as I with a lot of Dragons fans that day .
Yes , I hate losing to St George
