Thing is, does the team become better moving Thompson to FB and bringing back Nofo, until Mbye is fully fit?
Because we've won 3/5 including a GP loss, and close to the best defence in the comp after 5 rounds, so they are travelling alright.
If we all agree that Mbye is pretty safe at the back including kicks, tackles and organisation, then obviously people are complaining about his attack. And whilst Corey is a good little terrier in attack, he's also not a ball-playing fullback either - doesn't specifically have a passing or kicking game of note.
So then what's the diff between Mbye and Corey Thompson at FB? A bit more energy / hustle / support from Corey, but potentially less "second 5/8th" options.
Also, I would say that I believe other teams target Mbye when he comes into the attack, i.e. he draws defenders. He's not a tackle buster like Tedesco, but if he is drawing attackers, that always creates options inside and out, even if he himself is not slicing through the line.
I'm guessing Mbye's limitations for knee fitness can only really be worked out by playing at the top level, i.e. it's not going to do a lot for him to run around in reserves. He's not short a run, he's short of confidence in his knees and ISP is a lower tempo to gain that confidence.
And then if one of the halves goes down, Mbye is a ready-made replacement and Corey switches to FB.
Lastly, if Cleary intentionally poached him in 2018 and Maguire puts him as club captain 2019, then surely that says the coaches intend to play him FG every week.
