Name your rugby league myths

There's plenty of perceptions out there that just dont add up. Might be fun to agree and disagree on a few of our own.
My pet hate is the belief Steve Walters revolutionised the play of hookers. Walters was a hard hooker with a good running game, how is that revolutionary? Benny Elias was well before his time and is the only hooker to change the way hookers played. But Walters is widely regarded as the one who had the biggest effect. Walters is standard in my opinion, but Elias was the first of his kind.

Cliff Lyons now there's a myth Went missing so often in big games it was unbelieveable
Mark Geyer not much better was scared stiff of Andrew Gee after Gee Gee smashed him up big time in a school boy rep game and tore half his ear off during a wild brawl

Andrew Johns 'The Greatest Player In The World' was a myth created by Channel Nine and sold to the NSW folk for 10 years… I do feel Andrew Johns was revolutionary in creating this new 'Number 7' within the game of RL and has since seen this 'Number 7' play like a second 5/8\. One of the best 'club' footballers we have ever seen and was the equal of Peter Sterling at Club Level, but never the 'Greatest'.

The greatest myth is that Rugby League is a greater game with South Sydney in the competition!

Andrew Johns is no myth . I believe that no one can challenge Andrew Johns for the title of best player ever . Andrew Johns is the best rugby league player of all time .

I don't honestly think most of the guys above are myths - A lot of them may be overrated, but not a complete myth.

My myths are more recent.

Brent Kite - picked for years as a NSW and Test Prop - Never saw him do anything in a game - a nuffie. Thankfully the myth has been all but extinguished.

Mark Gasnier - Big fat expensive myth - Even St George supporters hate his guts.

Eric Grothe Jnr - I know his dad, and he's a lovely guy and was tough as nails, down to earth and happy to talk footy with the average punter. His son however, is the complete opposite.

Timona Tahu - Ill let you blokes fill in the gaps here with the countless stories about this muppet.

Nathan Merritt - Goes missing during a game, scores 5 tried against a woeful Parramatte outfit (Mitch Brown would have bagged 10) and people are calling on him for origin 2012….

Chris Sandow - Also goes missing during the game - in particular when his team is losing.....

Ill touch on Happy Tigers pick of Mark Geyer. Geyer may well be the definition of a myth. He was overrated as a footballer, overrated as a tough guy, a myth of a commentater, and most defintately a fake when it comes to being the "bad boy turned good" crap. Puts his name to a charity but when some behind the scenes work needs to be done to gain that charity some much needed money as its been struggling, he goes missing. Obviously wants to put his name to it for the recognition and nothing else, sad.

I heard a story about MG when with the Tigers. Apparently he saw the "urine collectors" near the dressing room as he walked back to the field after halftime. He went down in an innocuous tackle shortly after, feigned a coma and left on a stretcher to avoid being tested. I've always wondered whether that was a myth?

I agree Yoss these are all lies.

How do you explain how Qld has won some series The Fatty Vautin series with the whitewash (95??)
Qld spirit and passion is stronger You guys don't get it and I'll explain why
\

When we were getting flogged pre Origin we built this huge hate for a blue jersey especially when Qlders were wearing them

Many of the guys that were in the early sides remember these floggings and how NSW treated the Interstate games with contempt

Those guys are now brought into camp every year to keep the fires burning in the hearts of all Qlders to remind us of the past and how we will never ,never, ever let that happen again

That is the spirit and that is the passion

To take it one step further of what I meant Back when Qld played NSW in LA Tony Currie got a bit of a cork
Wayne Bennett tells the story well ,He went back into the dressing room and found Fatty Vautin and another Qld player punching TC in the leg

Bennett asked what they were doing and they expalined that TC wanted to stay in LA and not play for the Bulldogs that weekend so they were making the cork worse

Bennett walks out of the dressing room and within a few seconds runs into Bullfrog Moore and Moore asks about TC's leg Benny replies he would be no good and that he could go check on him if he didn't believe him

That is what being a Qlder is all about
