Got more bite to it

Obviously Rob and Benj are not the long term future, but with their experience and with thoughts of self-preservation, perhaps they will play more within themselves and consistently enough to provide a steadiness while still providing proper x factor.
Consistency has ALWAYS been their issue but romantic story lines have not.
Here’s dreaming.

It’s looking like the bigger question will be will he or won’t he have a get out clause. Let’s be honest, it’s not about us, it’s about playing with his dad, We’re just the lucky recipients. If and when the day comes Ivan gets tapped on the shoulder, then what?

IC would have significant power at the Club. We’re talking Bennett and Bellamy type of influence. It will all be fine if we are winning and a disaster if we’re not.

IC would only get a tap on the shoulder if we aren't winning. In which case it would also mean the NC isn't performing. So if IC left I dare say there wouldnt be to many complaining about NC leaving as well.

I'm not concerned about other clubs poaching the Cleary's from us. If were winning as tigers why would either move, like a Bellamy/Smith combo. If we are winning, the financial backing for the club will grow and we will be able to compete with the likes of roosters Broncs etc….

COE appears to be progressing as well, so the facility hurdle will hopefully end as well.

Surely the clause would be null and void if IC went of his own accord? i.e. poached. Coaches and players do move for a whole host of reasons (Better money, lifestyle, family, new challenges).

I would be very excited if NC comes across however would also retain a small reservation. Remember, Teddy, Woodsy and Robbie were all at one time excelling in teams that were losing with both going on to rep honours. We went through three coaches during the same period.

If you lose your coach and marquee player at one time, it’s virtually Groundhog Day (rebuild).

Agree, people leave for a host of reasons but my thoughts are they won't leave for money, lifestyle or family. The new challenge maybe the lure.

And I believe that if Nathan does sign it may be the beginning of a long term dynasty.

I also believe that if the Cleary's did move on they would do so in a manner that wouldn't leave the club in hole. Of course the opposite to everything I said is possible but I just don't see that in Ivan.

Do people think this is a premiership winning spine?

Yep, I do. Put the right pack in front and backs outside of them and yes that's a premiership team and one that could keep as in the top for 4 for a number of years.

I think the 2 biggest questions are; how many pages can we get this thread to, and do we think we can keep the topic going for possibly another year?

Good point, but then he could always change his mind, or, we may find we don't have enough cash left after we sign Curtis Rona.

Coach Cleary will have to get ahead of the game with a game plan for that spine. The big advantage is they are all very quick. The game plan could be based around playing fast?. Either way it will come down to the style of footy we would play and like you said the other recruits.

Forwards win matches - the backs just tell us by how far!

We need a working pack of mongrel pigs - then let the magic happen!

If the number of interchanges is reduced, that is exactly the spine you want.

If that was the case Brisbane, St George and Cronulla would be undefeated

Sharks for example have a damn good forward pack, all played origin, experienced but their halves are plodders (except for moylans 1 good game every 5)

Really lets See Storm Bromwich (international) Smith (GOAT) Asofa-Solomona (international) Kafusi (International) Hoffman (international) Finucane (plodder)…wins them games..Slater Munster Addo-Carr etc determine by how much..they have had 3 rookie halves this year...

That Sharks damn good pack also won a Premiership recently..

Holmes
Moylan
Townsend
Bradley

As I said earlier , with possibly Brooks ,Reynolds and Cleary taking 2.5 million of our salary cap , don't know where we will find those mongrel pigs we do need

Have to assume the club is too rolled up with NC's recruitment and not worried about getting the 3-4 forwards we need

Gus is playing the game , he realizes that even with NC , if we don't upgrade our forwards we will be stuck in 2018 mode for a while to come

We need to stick the cart in front of the horse ….

Im happy to take bets on the Sharks not winning the comp this year. Any takers lol?

Forwards get you to the dance floor but halves get the girls.

I think you guys are saying the same thing…Tiger-0ne and Geo have basically said that you need the pack of quality forwards (or mongrel pigs, if that's what you want to call them) so that your spine can do their magic. Really you can't argue with that - that's one of the fundamental truths in NRL.

Sharks only won their comp on the back of Maloney. Theyll struggle to score points in the big games this year.

Im with Clifferd

Barba aswell. If he didnt have his way with Colombian marching powder hed probably be the best fullback in the game atm

Roosters and Melbourne have dominant forward packs with a balance of world class back line players to execute off the back of. How? Well that's another topic to discuss

I think our forward pack is okay, if I had to rank it itd probably be in the 6th-10th category. Consistency is key, and I think N cleary might help that
