Nathan Cleary

I cant agree the pack is the most important part of your side.

Look at Canterbury the past few years. Have had decent forwards but god a awful spine.

Obviously you need a combination of both ideally.

However Ask me to spend close to a million on Klemmer or Cleary and I take Cleary every day of the week.

If we lose the guts most weeks , you lose a lot of football games

Of course you need a good mix , we are getting closer , but we still a least one backrower short that Brooks can go to in the redzone that can cause carnage and a bench prop / 13 that can get across the advantage line

Most of us are still agreed we are 3-4 players short

I'd rather have a forward pack ready to go when NC arrives , getting him a year early won't help , maximize the amounts of seasons he can take us to the promised land

And again Penrith are going to want player compensation as well as financial compensation , the players they might want are the players we need to keep

We require patience in regards to Cleary , wait until 2020 , get our line up right and reap the rewards :sign:

Agree Happy we need the right mix. Im not against having a great pack one bit!! Im just saying I think to have a good roster you cant go spending 800K on guys not in key positions like the Bulldogs did with Woods.

Just pretty much saying if forced to choose there is no way I woulds recruit a Klemmer or Taumolol to the club over a 20 year old halfback that has played 60 first grade games and already played Origin.

The Cowboys letting Ponga go is a decision that could haunt them for a decade.

I would be hunting around the young forwards at Penrith or Roosters or Souths. Cheaper and could allow you to spend money on the men that touch the ball the most.

Lot of good forwards still on the market , but we need to move very quickly

I have a feeling the Nathan deal is already done, hatched by Ivan and Phil Gould.
Gould has already set the scene where he looks the nice guy by talking up the sentiment of a father / son relationship.
Gould also knows that Penrith won’t be able to afford Nathan and he doesn’t want the power clubs to benefit from that.
The Panthers also have a the young gun that filled in for Cleary so that will help their cap while providing the punch to thru need st 5/8.
Nathan will be cut early and playing for the tigers in 2019 - a year early. I have no doubt.
Phil Gould (Mr Nice Guy) has already added it into his obituary.

That is my take on Gould's comments, he is setting himself up so he is not responsible for Nathan leaving the club, by saying he gave his word he could play for his dad, even stating he would set it up, allowing him to leave at any time. I could be wrong, been wrong plenty of times, but he just seems to be getting his excuse ready before the event, I hope so any way

I have a feeling that all this Nathan Cleary "Yes" or "No" to Wests Tigers is having a very drastic effect on the recruitment action for 2019\. It can't really start until the Nathan Cleary issue is settled and when it is settled it will be too late for 2019 recruitment. Of course when the issue is finally settled and it is decided that Nathan Cleary won't be coming the Tigers ship will, due to lack of recruitment, be having a stormy 2019 passage.

Cheer up, we are a professional club now, we will not be announcing any signings until the season is over, that’s called business acumen. It’s not professional to the players involved nor fair to the supporters of rival clubs.
Keep the faith.

I think you guys are absolutely right. At the very least, Gus came out and said what he said as a precaution if Cleary goes to the WT. At the very least, Gus is thinking it is likely hence his taking precautions.

I think for sure Nathan will be in WT colours in 2019, maybe Merrin too. One more class forward and a centre, and we are very happy.

You're kidding right.

Not all the time, but sometimes that standard is taken into account. Some players (Moses, Hayne, Cronk) just have no class and often a whole season can be tainted by it. Some players have more integrity.

Nathan will be a Tiger in 2019
Gould is dead set letting it out there as the good guy , Deal is done I reckon , Gould gets his bit out first on father and son , play together , Pemrith are the good guys not standing in the road etc etc , then we start with CLEARY Signs With Tigers , 5 year deal starting 2019 and then the rest will be rolled out
Front Row Forward , Signs
Back rower , signs
Centre signs
That would be 4 good players with 2 lower graders joining us as well

Nothing is done. There is no deal done or otherwise. Nathan knows he's wanted, Ivan has stated he'd like him at WT. That's it. Maybe it gets discussed over hot chocolate at chez Cleary. Personally I doubt it. Ultimately Nathan will make a call. If I was taking a punt I'd be betting on Cleary and Brooks on 2020 and seeing if they can shop Reynolds off somewhere. That's just a personal assessment based on public comments and looking at the tea leaves…

Feel the same way Yoss, cheers.

There seems to be a lot of people pretty sure Cleary will be heading our way in 2019, based on a few throw away comments made by both Gould and IC. I hope we don't see any wrist cutting when it doesn't happen.

NRL is a funny game with lots of twists and turns. I would be over the moon if we saw him in 2020, but 2019 is a massive long shot and 2020 is a long way from being in the bag

I don’t think Nathan will be here next year. He re-signed with Penrith after Ivan left.

While they are close, I don’t think Ivan will sacrifice his sons development and career for the sake of playing together now.

Coming to an average roster would put his origin spot and future earnings at risk.

The elephants in the room are Penrith’s performance this year, his relationship with Griffin and what penriths future plans are

Nathan would come to a tigers side with much the same roster. A struggling forward pack and lack of ball runners which would

From bulldog bites - sporting news

CLEARY NOT A SURE THING AT CONCORD
Penrith is still confident of retaining Nathan Cleary, despite expected interest from Wests Tigers, where his father, Ivan, coaches.

The Panthers are working away quietly in the background trying to nail down Cleary long-term.

I’d throw a few bucks on Cleary remaining at Penrith.

Dean Ritchie is throwing darts with a blindfold on & hoping to hit the bullseye .
2 weeks ago he said the Clearys were going to the Broncos

If we were the Roosters, we’d give Ivan a top up, seeing as how he’s exempt from the cap, with it really going to Nathan. Pretty full proof idea that.

From next year there is a Cap for the non-playing staff.
3 million for all the clubs except for Storm, Broncos and Roosters they get 12 million.

The cap covers the entire football department and includes coaches, assistant coaches, non-playing staff, equipment and even camps, oh and also includes sacked coaches.
