We played a game against the Dog the last 2 years that was just a full contact training sessions where the coaches set up game situations. For example one team would be given the ball on the opposition try line and keep it for 3 sets of 6 to allow the opposition to work on defensive structures on the tryline. I'm guessing this is similar to that.

Sort of like a training run yes, the roosters will probably set up plays and we defend consecutive sets and vice versa. @cochise summed it up best
