New NRL TV Deal - What do you want from it?

This is what I would like:

19:35 Friday Nights (FTA)
15:05 Saturday (Fox)
17:35 Saturday (FOX)
19:35 Saturday (FTA)
13:10:Sunday Fox
15:00 Sunday Fox
15:00 Sunday Fox (V/Choice)
18:30 Sunday (Live on FTA - Game of the Round)

NZ games gould easily be alloacted either the 17:30 or 13:00 timeslot.

Imagine good old sydney debies and double headers which could be held on a Sunday afternoon.
 
Monday Night won't go anywhere, too many viewers for Fox, I don't know the exact number but Monday Night Games dominate the most watched programs on Fox.

I'd like to see a FTA game on Saturday, in fact as much FTA as possible. Hate going to mates places and not being able to see games because they don't have Foxtel.

Live FTA game at 2 or 3pm on Sunday would be excellent. Online streaming games is a must. And for the love of god, will someone put a stop to the constant betting adverts on both Fox and Nine, its disgusting. People have real problems with gambling, and it cheapens the code when we are constantly told the changed odds or the fact there is an option for first try scorer in the 2nd half etc.

Love it but they will never go back to Saturday arvo football Crowds were that bad in the end But used to love watching the Saturday arvo game on ABC
 
I think an ABC game at 15:05 would be fantasic. I know they have the Rugby on ABC 1 but there is ABC2 and ABC3.

This would give the people of regional australia a live game to view.

I think with good advertising there is no reason why a 15:05 on a Saturday wouldnt work
 
Saturday arvo games didn't work because lots of kids are playing their junior footy in the late morning/early arvo and don't get to the game.

Sorry mate, its more a TV product now than ever before.

I hear ya tho.

I will wait and watch a FOX replay of nines delayed games, or IQ them and FF thru the ads, once you get used to ad free footy theres no going back.

worst thing you can do - get used to watching it in High Definition….. Do that on a saturday night game, then viewers choice yourself to a non HD Game - it's a disgrace how much better the picture is.
 
Current size of the NRL with 16 teams I'd have:

Friday 7:30 x 2 - same as how it is now with 9 showing both games but the delayed game having ad break restrictions

Saturday 5:30
Saturday 7:30 x 2

Sunday 2:00 x 2 - viewer's choice on Foxtel, same as they have now on Saturday nights
Sunday 3:30 - shown live on Ch 9
Sunday 6:00 - shown live on Fox

Channel 9 delay the Sunday telecast so that the game leads straight into the 6pm News. I know it's a long shot but I reckon they do a 3:30pm game, shown live, which will finish around 5:30pm, then they can have half an hour of discussion/game reviews/gap filler … maybe an idea?

Scrap Monday. I still think a twilight game on Sundays has potential.
 
AFL just signed for a BILLION DOLLARS - NRL should get more.
Someone at the NRL should make sure their product gets to everybody - not just those with access to Foxtel or a pub or club!
 
Still can't understand why free to air can't have One game Friday , Saturday and Sunday . Maybe if another channel gets the rights we can get that .

It doesnt matter what channel its on if they make every game available online… would love that

That AFL deal is ridiculous. Considering the previous deal was already losing 7 and 10 money, how could they justify increasing it by 50%??
 
I want a Dedicated Rugby League Channel, it staggers me that Foxtel did it previously with AFL and are now giving them a dedicated channel again when it rated so poorly last time.

Really if their basing it on pure number of viewers and subscriptions the NRL should receive $1.5 Billion, a dedicated channel and the delayed channel 9 Friday night game to be played live on their Digital channel.

But seeing as though Fox has their hands in every cupboard already, the NRL will get about $800 million, and the status quo will remain the same. Until we get rid of David Gallop the ex Super League lawyer, nothing will change.
 
I would love to see them give a bit more power back to the clubs as to when they play their games.

For Example North Queensland like their home games on Saturday night so that more fans can get to the game, The Tigers would be better having Sunday arvo games at Leichhardt and Campbelltown. I'm sure other clubs have their preferences as well.

I know you won't be able to please everyone but the more of these games that are on when clubs/fans want them on will draw in bigger crowds and bring in more supporters of the game which would surely lead to a larger TV audience in the long run.

Mondays are hear to stay as they rate so well but I think if they even these out a little and plan the seasons worth in advance. I'm sure fox would hate this but I can't see too much difference then the 15 weeks ahead or whatever it is that we have now and this.

In terms of when games are played I would like to see:

Fri 7:00 (live)
Fri 8:00 (delay)

Sat 5:30
Sat 7:30

Sun 2:00 x2 with viewers choice or 12pm game from NZ
Sun 4:00

Sun 6:30

Mon 7:00

It would be so good having a 24/7 league channel .. having classic games and everything … cant see it happening though... but NRL will most probably make a online channel with all live games and i hope league shows just like they do in the nba - if they do that im happy... :smiley:
